Donald Trump Did Not Quote "Bee Movie" In His Inaugural Address

    Barry B Benson did not inspire Donald J. Trump.

    This is Donald J. Trump, the president of the United States.

    And this is Barry B. Benson, the protagonist of Paramount Pictures' 2007 animated family comedy Bee Movie.

    After Trump became president on Friday, an image started circulating online claiming that his inaugural address had ripped off a speech Benson supposedly gives in the movie.

    The text in the image reads:

    Donald Trump inaugural address (2017): "We are one nation – – and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny."

    Barry B Benson, Bee Movie (2007): "We are one colony – – and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one hive, and one glorious destiny."

    People couldn't believe it.

    But people were right to be incredulous, because while President Trump did say that quote in his inaugural address, the quote attributed to Barry B. Benson does not appear in the Bee Movie script, which is available online.

    However, that didn't stop the image spreading.

    Chrissy Teigen didn't particularly help matters.

    And neither did India Today, which published a story asking whether Trump had quoted three movies in his inaugural address: Bee Movie, Avatar, and The Dark Knight Rises.

    The Avatar claim is also fake.

    @PaulBegala @dmitchell121 Plagiarized speech :

    But President Trump did say something really similar to Bane from The Dark Knight Rises.

    So while Trump didn't rip off Barry B. Benson, at least it gave people a laugh.
