Two Men Arrested On Suspicion Of Murder After Death Of British Soldier In Brecon, Wales

    The soldier, who was not in uniform, was found injured and unconscious by police in Brecon town centre.

    Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a British soldier in Brecon, Mid Wales.

    Dyfed-Powys police said the victim was found unconscious in the town's Lion Street between 12:30am and 1:30am on Sunday 8 May.

    He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries, the nature of which have not been disclosed.

    A police spokesperson said the man's death was being treated as "unexplained".

    Police on Monday said a 22-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 23-year-old man was also arrested on Sunday in connection with the offence. Both men are being questioned in police custody.

    In a statement on Sunday afternoon a Dyfed-Powys police spokesperson said "the investigation is on-going".

    Anyone who was close to Lion Street, Bethel Square, Tredegar Street and the town's High Street between 12:30am and 1:30am on Sunday is urged to contact police on 101.

    A Ministry of Defence spokesperson confirmed that a soldier had died but could not comment further pending the police investigation.

    However, it is understood that the soldier was not in uniform prior to his death, and the incident is not thought to be terrorism-related.
