Here’s What It’s Like Inside San Francisco's Most Beautiful Medical Marijuana Stores

Many people would imagine weed stores to be dark, grungy and unappealingly scuzzy. Here, three San Francisco dispensaries that skew way more Banana Republic than back alley.

There's definitely a reason that SPARC is known as the Apple Store of pot shops. The bright and open layout and hi-tech features — like a computerized menu that you can look through before heading to the counters — definitely reminded us of an actual Apple Store. But with weed.

The first time you visit SPARC, you’ll need to register with your valid medical marijuana prescription at the front counter. Staff will give you a membership card that you’ll use in the future to enter the dispensary and make purchases. Like most dispensaries, it's free to join.

Flowers have color-coded labels so that you can easily find the type of strain you’re looking for. They also display THC and CBD percentages as well as prices.

SPARC's vape lounge looks like something straight out of a Blue Bottle coffee shop. They have three Volcano vaporizer bases and a few handheld vapes that can be rented at the front counter.

The frosted glass windows mimic the molecular structure of THC, a subtle but appreciated touch.

SPARC also has a glass door that was inspired by Twin Peaks Tavern, a local landmark well-known in the LGBT community for being the first gay club with a glass door proudly showing off the inside to passersby.

The first thing you notice at Bloom Room's counter are the jars of flowers sitting out for your to look at — and smell — on your own. There’s no need to ask the budtender to retrieve strains for you to view, which definitely streamlines the process.

We asked Stephen what new items were gaining popularity and he showed us these Hepburn’s mini pre-roll joints. They go for around fifty bucks, and are perfect for medical stoners on the go.

Bloom Room also features a vape lounge with two Volcano vaporizers. The "lounge" isn’t huge, but there’s plenty of room for a nice mid-day vape session.

Our cameras were also able to infiltrate the “staff only” back room, where we saw a budtender weighing and labeling bags of a very adult type of "fruit punch." It smells pretty heavenly back there.

As you’re leaving Bloom Room, make sure to pay attention to the hanging planters in the foyer. They were designed by Bloom Room consultant Juliana, and are a recent addition to the space.

The Barbary Coast Dispensary shares its name with San Francisco's former red-light district. Back in the 1800s and early 1900s, the Barbary Coast was a nine-block area known for its brothels, bars, jazz clubs, and saloons.

As you enter the dispensary (located on Mission between 6th and 7th), you can definitely feel the old school saloon vibe with all of the polished wood and exposed brick.

The club is designed almost like a coffeeshop in Amsterdam. You can sit at a barstool while you decide on an herb and watch as it's weighed right in front of you.

Concentrates (like the shatter sample seen above) are also gaining popularity. Not familiar with concentrates? Just ask the budtender and they'll demonstrate you how to smoke the shatter on a sample dab rig.
