A letter left near where a young woman was slashed in Queens, New York said that the victim wasn't the intended target and that the alleged assailant would return for the person he was after, a police source confirmed to BuzzFeed News.

The note was left on a car on January 4 in the Whitestone section of Queens, the same neighborhood where the December slashing happened at 147th Street and 13th Avenue, the police source said. It was addressed to the person police believe is the intended target, the source said.

The letter was first reported by New York Daily News.

"I know a lot about you, bitch," the letter read, according to the Daily News. "Stop being a slut."

The letter comes nearly a month after a man approached a 16-year-old exchange student from China from behind and slashed her face in broad daylight. The incident, which caught on surveillance video and distributed by the NYPD, shook the city.

The victim was treated for her injuries and survived, the NYPD said. No one was arrested in the attack, and it remains under investigation.
