Police are investigating the death of a 20-year-old Eritrean man, whose bloody body was found outside his home in Dresden.

Khaled Idris Bahray, 20, left his apartment on Monday his five roommates told The Guardian. The roommates said Bahray said he would be back shortly. His body was found the next morning covered in blood and wounds.

Police initially said there were no signs of foul play, but announced a murder investigation has been launched after members of the Eritrean community in Germany, which boasts 35,000 people, demanded a closer look into the case.

"From the external marks on the corpse it is not possible to deduce what happened," police spokesperson Dieter Kroll told The Guardian. "Due to the fact there is reasonable suspicion to indicate an unnatural death, the murder commission is now investigating."

Some tweets and Facebook messages suggest there is a connection between Bahray's death and the anti-immigrant movement Pegida.

This week, approximately 25,000 people attended Pegida's weekly meeting.
