Movie Theater Ceiling Collapses Onto People In The Philippines

Approximately 300 people were in the room, which was being rented by Dreamscape Network Inc. for an event.

The ceiling of Cinema 5 of Ayala Center Cebu collapsed Monday night in the Philippines while about 300 people were inside.

A spokesperson of Cebu Holdings Inc., the theater's holding company, confirmed the ceiling collapsed around 8:50 p.m. local time, according to The Freeman. The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. The newspaper reported six people were injured and one person was transported to the hospital.

In video of the incident posted on social media, water can be seen pouring from the ceiling before it gives in. There are severe storms ongoing in the area.

“As of the moment, our priority is to ensure the safety of those who were present,” Jeanette Japzon, corporate communications manager of Cebu Holdings Inc. told The Freeman.

The room was being rented by Dreamscape Network Inc. for an event, the newspaper reported.
