Google Accidentally Made This Random Politician The Most Generic Search Result

    Wait... that's Tim bloody Wilson!

A few days ago, when you typed the word "human" or "homo sapiens" into Google (as you do... don't you? I do it all the time) these were the first results.

But waaaaait a second. WTF. Who? Wait. That's Australian federal MP Tim bloody Wilson.

It turns out Wilson found his way to the top of the Google results when punters searched for the most generic of humans.

Put human into Google and you get... a photo of @timwilsoncomau

Some people found it quite appropriate.

    it's fitting that @timwilsoncomau is Google's default face for 'human' because he's the most generic-looking bastar… https://t.co/eEg9usgeL3

But most people were FREAKING OUT. Like, why Tim Wilson?

This is absolutely true: if you google 'homo sapiens' it brings up a photo of @timwilsoncomau. What does this mean??

Well BuzzFeed News can reveal that it all likely stems from Wilson's time as head of Australia's Human Rights Commission.

Seriously people... I don't think you understand. If you put "human" into google - a photo of @timwilsoncomau comes up. HE IS ALL OF US

According to a source at Google, someone once tagged Wilson's portrait's metadata with the single word, "human".

Apparently the search engine did the rest, with the algorithm promoting this generic human face to the top search result.

Google found the whole situation so ridiculous that it decided to send a pisstake version of its "source code" to Wilson in the form of a reprinted Merriam Webster dictionary.

Thanks @Google for updating the Webster Intl Dictionary to make it consistent with your search engine… https://t.co/UCbowo3pUj

    It looked like this.

    And there he is!

Google has now tweaked its algorithm so Wilson no longer appears as the top result for human. Mystery solved. Next.
