The Member for Parramatta took to the dispatch box on Wednesday and shocked everyone when she thanked the Deputy Speaker in AUSLAN.

Julie Owens told BuzzFeed her AUSLAN speech was to mark National Week of Deaf People and to thank everyone who attended the 2014 Deaf Festival in her electorate.

It's understood to be one of the only AUSLAN speeches ever given in Australia's parliament. She was cheered on by her party in sign language.

Watch Ms Owen's terrific speech here in what she argues is one of the GREAT Australian languages!
