"The Mouse and his Child" by Russell Hoban. Old old book but has the best story with proof of diligence and faith in the end. If it can go wrong it does but they face it and power through. We should do this also. Helped me through the death of my husband when my kids were two.
There is always the hope that what you think you are is not what you are and that a new and blazing thing may come up from your roots. Did for me. I am content now.
It matters what happened but then it doesn't. What matters is who we became afterwards. We are not the same. Life, death, rape, what have you. It is never the same.
