21 Things Every Self-Confessed Couch Potato Needs

Just watch me make a human-shaped dent in my couch.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. This wearable blanket, which will replace the need for every hoodie and blanket you currently own.

This one-size-fits-all wearable blanket is velvet-like to the touch and is made with a sherpa lining for extra cosiness and heat retention. Suitable for every environment, you never have to fidget under layers of blankets at home — or shiver outside in thin hoodies — ever again.

Buy it from Amazon Australia for $49.99.

    2. This Amazon Fire TV Stick, which will make jumping from streaming service to streaming service a breeze — because I know for a certainty that you have more than one.

The Fire TV Stick connects your HDTV to an obscene number of apps — no longer need you kick yourself for not upgrading to a smart tv. We're talking Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV — not to mention Amazon Music, Spotify and a whole bunch of other couch potato-transforming apps.

Buy it from Amazon Australia for $69.

    3. Speaking of streaming services, Greta Gerwig's Little Women is now available from the Prime Video Store, so you should definitely add that to your to-watch list.

    Columbia Pictures

The hype for this film was real — Greta Gerwig, indie film darling, directing and writing her second solo project (the first being Oscar-nominated Lady Bird), with Soairse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet back as leads, no less. As if that weren't enough, it was for the adaptation of this classic novel that already found a perfect film adaptation in the '90s.

Fans needn't have been worried, though. Here, each sister's life, which represents so faithfully so many of our own (I'm sorry, but not everyone can be a Jo), is given so much love and respect. It's also told in a nonlinear timeline, so even though set in the 19th Century, is thoroughly modern in its storytelling — even my period film-hating husband loved it. Watch this one next time you're spending the night in with the women in your life.

You can browse the rest of the Prime Video Store here.

    4. This Kindle Paperwhite, because since you've decided to fossilise to your couch, you might as well get to your to-read list.

If that GIF isn't a resounding recommendation, I don't know what is. But aside from being completely waterproof, this is the thinnest, lightest Kindle yet and it reads like paper in the sun (absolutely no glare). A single charge lasts weeks (weeks!) and gives you access to millions of titles.

Not convinced? One of our colleagues from the States wrote a whole post on it here.

Buy it from Amazon Australia for $199.

    5. This Instant Pot, which will do all the temperature-measuring and timing for you, so you can continue with your show and minimise the time spent feeding yourself.

    Mariela Summerhays / BuzzFeed

I was fully prepared not to be impressed by the Instant Pot. I can not stress how tedious I find the act of cooking — but even after my very first experience, I can wholeheartedly advocate its use for the culinary-challenged or time-poor among us. A 7-in-1 appliance — yes, seven — you're able to do all the things with just a single appliance, saving storage space, washing up time and (as I was particularly curious to find out) master all the cooking techniques.

Buy a 3L model from Amazon Australia for $131.90.

    6. Or a Marley Spoon subscription, which gets you boxes or fresh ingredients and delightful recipes — no wasting time thinking of something new and interesting, yet again.

    @marleyspoonau / Via

No matter your dietary preferences — vegetarian, vegan, low carb, no added gluten — Marley Spoon has you covered. Just select how many meals you'd like covered a week, then spend the time you'd normally spend at the supermarket on the couch, only getting up to receive your package at your front door!

Get $100 off your first five boxes with the code "C4BUZZF25F ".

A two-person box from Marley Spoon starts at $43.95.

    7. This microwavable popcorn maker, because they can never add enough butter and salt in packaged popcorn for my liking.

This popcorn maker is super easy to use, BPA and PVC free, collapsible for easy storage and dishwasher-safe. The best part is you can create your own fun flavours because you're making it from scratch!

Buy it from Amazon Australia for $18.99.

    8. This stainless steel wine tumbler, which will keep your wine chilled for the duration of an episode and longer.

This vacuum-insulated tumbler will keep your wine chilled until the very last drop, should you be past your chugging days and want to make it last longer. It eliminates condensation (no wet hands or tables) and is available in three other colours.

Buy it from Amazon Australia for $27.99.

    9. These super flattering, high-waisted workout leggings, which are uber comfy for when you want to chill on the couch or get a shot of motivation to exercise.

    Julia Willing / BuzzFeed

These tights are made of ultra-fine fibres that mimic the softness and durability of silk — so whether you're working out or sitting on the couch all day, your tush will remain comfy. The fabric is also super stretchy, so you'll be able to move in any direction you please without feeling any discomfort. Plus, it features a side pocket for your phone — so, you'll no longer need to stick it in your bra and let it get all sweaty.

Promising review: "Every time I saw an ad for these tights I thought; 'Damn, her bum looks great in those'. And evidently that's my only requirement of activewear, because I finally caved and bought a pair in dark green. Let me tell you, these are seriously worth the hype. They're so comfy, they feel like silk on and — I can confirm — they DO make butts look great. I've done some high-intensity training in them already and they don't ride up, fall down, or cause a wedgie mid-lunge. They're ridiculously cheap too, so I'm going to load up on different colours. Treat yo' butt."

Buy it from Amazon Australia for $15.98+ (available in 30 colours).

    10. This can opener, which will safely remove the top of any beer or soft drink can, making mixing drinks easy and eliminating the need for drinking glasses.

Safely removing the top of cans and not leaving any sharp edges, this can opener allows beer drinkers to enjoy the full aromas of their bevvies as if it were poured straight from the tap. Or, if you mix your spirits with cola (*eyes my husband*), to do so without taking out glassware, leaving less mess to clean up.

    11. This scratch-off movie list, because nothing is more infuriating than spending the whole night deciding what to watch and leaving no time to view a movie in the end.

I may or may not be calling myself out with this one. Many a night has been spent jumping from streaming service to streaming service, looking for something that both my husband and I could agree on. This chic movie poster features 100 of the most popular, iconic films of all time, allowing you to scratch them off as you go.

Buy it from Amazon Australia for $45.99.

    15. This anti-spill cup holder, which will keep your drink right next to you on the couch, without fear of messes.

This one-size-fits-all, silicone drink coaster securely hugs couch arms and back rests, removing the need for a coffee table in teeny spaces. Its base grips to the surface on which its placed, while its holder adjusts to accomodate almost every can, bottle or mug.

Buy from Amazon Australia for $27.39.

    19. This stylish pair of blue light blocking glasses, which will allow you to continue on your streaming binge without the least bit of pain.

These glasses work by blocking out the blue light from screens, which can cause eye strain, headaches and inability to sleep. So, if you're always clutching your temples at the end of movie marathon, this here is a great present to yourself.

Buy it from Amazon Australia for $35.90.

    20. This body pillow, which yes, is meant for pregnant women — but quite honestly, I wouldn't mind holding me while I watch all the shows.

Locally made (we love an Aussie product!), this pregnancy-slash-nursing pillow is naturally antibacterial and dust-mite resistant, giving you peace of mind that you're not inhaling a whole lotta germs. The case can be removed and washed, and its all-natural cotton fabrication minimises heat retention (good for the sweaty among us).

Buy it from Amazon Australia for $49.

    21. And finally, these reusable, air-tight pouches, perfect for the many half-opened bags of snacks you've accumulated during your movie sessions.

These reusable — and somehow chic? — pouches are food-safe and BPA free. Store your snacks in them and take them wherever you need, without fear of spillage, thanks to its air-tight, double seal lock. Plus, they're freezer safe and are a great deal more convenient to store than bulkier containers.
