First Generation Kids — What Would You Like To Say To Your Parents?

The older I become, the more I realise how much my parents sacrificed for me.

My parents moved to Australia from the Philippines, years before I was born.

Growing up and being the child of immigrants was interesting. My parents and I didn't always see eye to eye.

But the older I become, the things that I once found annoying or embarrassing about having ethnic parents, have become...well, the things I'm most proud of.

Which got me thinking — what's something you want to thank your immigrant parents for?

Maybe you've only recently realised that they sometimes went without, so that you could have what they never did as children.

Or maybe your parents insistence that you apply yourself to your studies so you'd have many opportunities...actually led to you having many opportunities.

Maybe you never felt like "everyone else" — but now you're grateful for the language, culture and food your parents have passed down to you.

Whatever it is — whether you choose to tell them or not (but I totally think you should): What's something you want to thank your immigrant parents for?
