Based on real life stories from their hugely popular column-turned-podcast of the same name, The New York Times have co-produced an eight episode series for Amazon Prime called Modern Love.

Stories about sexual, romantic, familial, platonic and self-love — my tear ducts and heart strings are not ready.

Each standalone episode runs for half an hour, and features an ensemble cast that is ridiculously talented.

Anne Hathaway, Dev Patel, Andy Garcia, Tina-freaking-Fey. It’s a lot to take in.

John Carney, man responsible for heart-warming films Once, Sing Street and Begin Again, is at the helm, writing, directing and executive producing the series.

Not to mention, Emmy Rossum, who you might know from Shameless, guest directs an episode!

At the Television Critics Association panel in July, both Hathaway and Cristin Milioti (of How I Met Your Mother fame) discussed their individual episodes and characters.

Hathaway spoke about her role as a woman with bipolar disorder, navigating her condition while learning to accept love in her life.

"I was really humbled by this experience," she said. "It wrecked me for a month afterwards [but being able to walk away from it] expanded my compassion so much for people who have no choice in this matter".

Cristin Milioti's episode centres around a woman who unexpectedly falls pregnant and discovers a love not usually associated with the experience.

"Mine sticks pretty close to the original column, which is this woman got pregnant unexpectedly and the only person who is there for her is the doorman of her building and they develop this [father-daughter] relationship."
