Where We Left On You Season 1…

The official trailer for You Season 2 just dropped here’s where we left off on You Season 1. Warning this recap contains spoilers from Season 1 of You. Please read this article at your own risk.

The Recap

As the Season finale unveils itself, Beck comes to learn that Joe is a serial killer who has been infatuated with her from the very beginning. After finding Joe’s secret stash in the bathroom ceiling, Beck discovers it contained her missing personal belongings as well as incriminating evidence that ties the disappearance of Benji to Joe. Beck then realizes that Joe isn’t who he claims to be.

Realizing Beck's discovery, Joe kidnaps Beck and holds her hostage inside the soundproof cage at Mooney's bookstore's basement. Joe tries to convince Beck that he is the best thing that has ever happened to her. In Joe's mind, he saved Beck from a life of bad influences by killing those closest to her (Benji and Peach).

Knowing her chances of getting out are slim, Beck tries to buy into Joe’s reality by writing a fabricated memoir pinning Dr. Nicky for the crimes Joe committed. Little did Beck know; Joe would eventually publish the memoir to maintain his innocent image as a supportive grieving ex-boyfriend.

Joe kills Beck for trying to escape then buries her body in Dr. Nicky’s backyard. As a way to further depict Dr. Nicky as the evil villain that Beck writes about in her memoir, Joe plants incriminating evidence from his secret stash throughout Dr. Nicky’s residence. The pieces of evidence planted helps frame Dr. Nicky for multiple crimes, from the murder of Beck to the disappearance of Benji and the suspicious death of Peach.

Following the publication of Beck's memoir, Dr. Nicky becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance. Police narrow in on Dr. Nicky and discover his property is full of incriminating evidence, one of which is a dead body (presumably Beck's). Dr. Nicky is then arrested and charged with the murder of Guinevere Beck.

Moving forward four months later, Joe is still the manager of Mooney’s and still feels heartbroken over his loss of Beck (despite being the one to kill her). We learn that even though Beck is dead, this isn’t going to stop Joe from being open to love.

The ending of Season 1 leaves us how we began but with a huge plot twist. Similar to the pilot episode, Joe becomes deeply captivated by an attractive woman that walks into the bookstore. Letting his curiosity get the best of him, he follows her to the back of the bookstore where he is surprised to see the young woman is Candace, Joe’s ex, whom he believed was dead. With that, we are left seeing Candace tell Joe they have “unfinished business” to deal with.

Things to Keep in Mind from Season 1:

The Salinger family hired a Private Investigator to investigate Peach’s suspicious death. We last see the PI in a café shop reading Beck’s memoir and thinking it was fabricated presumably by Joe. Remember the PI once mentioned to Joe that there was DNA (Joe's pee in a mason jar) found at Peach’s crime scene that may tie the killer to the crime.

Paco moves away with his mother for a fresh start. We learn that Paco is the only person besides Joe who seen Beck alive. As Beck tries to escape, she gets trapped behind the basement door where she sees Paco on the other side. As Beck pleas for his help, Paco flees the scene thinking Beck found out about the murder of Ron (his mom's abusive boyfriend) that he witnessed at the hands of Joe.
