Why You Need To Watch 'Stranger Things' On Netflix Right Now

Get on it for 80's nostalgia at its best.

1. Winona Forever

You can't have the 80's without Winona. In a genius move by series creators, The Duffer Brothers, our favourite teenage screen queen makes a triumphant return as Joyce Byers. Her distinctive tone and frantic performance as she searches for her missing son, Will, is the best I've seen since Edward Scissorhands (without a doubt the best film OF ALL TIME TBH).

2. Those Friendship Feels

Sit around my young friends and let me tell you about a time before the internet. A time of true friendship, creative neighbourhood jaunts on bikes, walkie talkies and making our own fun. Our parents never knew where we were and usually, we were up to no good.

It's Stand By Me meets The Coreys in Lost Boys with a little E.T thrown in for good measure. Nothing brings people together like a supernatural mystery to solve.

Shout out to those 80's bikes with the long seats which you could double on. SAWEEEET.

3. Jonathan Byers

Don't even try to tell me this isn't Christian Slater and Winona Ryder's love child. Despite the fact actor Charlie Heaton is British (pfft! whatever!) he definitely has that 80's outsider-that-you'd-totally-make-out-with vibe.

4. Kick Ass Babes

The female leads are awesome. Winona carries the show, but younger Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) really bring it when it comes to taking down the baddies and overcoming slut shaming, daddy issues and the trials of young love.

5. Police Chief Hopper

We all love a small town cop with a 'meh' attitude and love of strong black coffee.

Enter Jim Hopper: despondent, depressed and still looking damn fine in that uniform. He has enough of the dark side in him to give zero fucks about actual authority and makes it his mission to suss out the truth behind the weird disappearance of the local kids. In short, he's totally bad ass.

Side note: Everyone is the 80's smokes and it's awesome.

6. The Soundtrack

One of my favourite scenes is early on when Jonathan is teaching his brother about excellent music like The Clash and the pressure to like things you don't. Jonathan tells Will:

'He [their father] is trying to get you to like normal things...You shouldn't like things because people tell you you're supposed to...'

It's how everyone who grew up in a small town and dares to be a little 'weird' feels at one time or another. Before tumblr, we had music and this soundtrack is a shout out to all the kids who were kinda loners. Long live the mix tape!

7. Steve Harrington

In Stranger Things the standard dreamy 80's jock is played by Joe Keery, who apparently is a top bloke IRL so they decided to keep the character around. He's absolutely perfect as the popular yet douchey Steve Harrington, and that hair is ON POINT.

Bonus points for redeeming himself later in the series but I am obvie #teamjonathan4eva

8. It's Science, Stupid!

For someone who is still pretty confused about The Matrix, Stranger Things does a bang up job of explaining the science to me.

As Mr. Clarke says when he is teaching the boys how to 'hypothetically' travel to another dimension: 'Science is neat, but I'm afraid it's not very forgiving.' (Or easy to understand without detailed scenes such as this).

9. The Opening Sequence
