    1. Acure Brilliantly Brightening Facial Scrub says "buh-bye" to dirt and oil, with sea kelp and French green clay to soften and detox your skin without removing all the moisture.

A reviewer's face in a before/ after with reduced acne, redness, and more glowing skin

Promising review: "Yay! This stuff is a lifesaver. Recently my doctor put me on steroids to clear up my allergies. I immediately started breaking out like I was 15 again (it was one of the side effects. I should’ve read the pamphlet they give) and being 25, that doesn't really happen anymore. I didn't have a good exfoliator and this one had such good reviews that i decided to try it out. It really works! In eight days my skin was almost back to normal and it felt clean as can be! My dark acne spots were significantly lighter and all the little bumps i had were gone. Will be buying this from here on out." —janelle

Get it from Amazon for $9.99 (also available in rejuvenating and skin-clearing formulas).

Author holding the tube and showing a tab of the clear sunscreen's texture
    BuzzFeed / Maitland Quitmeyer

Promising review: "My dermatologist recommended this. I love it. Easy to apply. Feels like silk. Very light on skin and that encourages me to use it every day. I hated the heavy feel of my past sunscreens. I can put this on under or over my moisturizer and/or make up. It may be pricey, but a little goes a long way and it's lasted me a couple months, face only, daily use." —GavinsMom

Get it from Amazon for $34 (also available in a travel size for $17).

A reviewer's forehead in two images: on top with more pronounced wrinkles, on the bottom with reduced lines

Promising review: "I have been using snail products for a few years now and they have definitely helped my fiftysomething, sun damaged, rosacea plagued skin.I was curious about this serum and decided to go ahead and try it. The first week of use I had a small breakout, but it could have been because it was a particularly stressful week so I decided to stick with it. After another week I could see where the rosacea was much more calm and the sun-damaged parts (fine to moderate lines) were improving as well. After full month of daily use I absolutely LOVE this product!! My breakouts are fewer, my fine to moderate lines are slightly improved and the skin tone itself is also improved. With visible improvements like this in only one month I can't wait to see what six months of daily use will look like!" —hear it live

    6. Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid exfoliant (all of your favorite skincare TikTokers swear by it) unclogs pores, banishes dead skin cells, and evens out skin tone. It even works on my very allergy-prone sensitive skin. A whopping 70 reviewers used the word "miracle."

A reviewer's skin before and after use, with reduced texture, acne, and redness after with five stars and text "bad texture and dull skin, you need this"

I use this exfoliator a few times a week and I'm in loooove. The formula isn't too hard with my sensitive skin (and I've been known to over-react to other anti-acne products with salicylic acid in them) but it helps keep my skin soft, clear, and glowy. It's the only product that has *ever* kept the pores on my nose non-congested. Put away the harsh blackhead strips and try this instead!

Promising review: "This stuff should be called a miracle in a bottle. When I use it on my (pretty dry) skin, it transforms it from congested, irritated, and bright red to calm, clear, and glowing overnight. Most of the people reviewing this are using it incorrectly. It's an acid exfoliator. That means you should use it once a week, twice at the most (if your skin is oily and needs a lot of work.) Also, it should never be used during the daytime. BHA, or salicylic acid, interacts terribly with the sun. If you absolutely must put it on in the morning, follow it up with heavy SPF, but I wouldn't do it. This stuff is like anything else — it only works if you know how to do it properly." —Audrey Brock

Get it from Amazon for $29.50.

    7. Bolden Overnight Spa Treatment works overnight to stop pimples in their tracks. Just dot it on as needed and the sulfur formula kills bacteria and exfoliates to hasten the zit's imminent demise.

Promising review: "I used this after an overzealous micro-dermabrasion facial left part of my face scraped raw. Seriously, it looked like I had face-planted on concrete. And I am a slow healer. After tons of frantic internet research, I stumbled upon this cream. It accelerated the healing process to a few days and without scars or complications. Love the cream." —Ljtrue

A reviewer's before/after with reduced texture and scarring

*Just do not use it every day.* Start slow and work yourself up if needed, paying attention to your skin.

Promising review: "I read about this in a Self article and purchased for that reason and Cerave seems to be a trusted brand with the derms I’ve seen. I was retinol shy because my sister had bad experiences growing up (with much more powerful stuff I bet) and I have sensitive skin. Also, I have uneven texture which has not responded to other scrubs or oils. This goes on like a gel, not sticky, I use it every other day, wear sunscreen every day, and have no bad side effects. My skin started to look better, smaller pores, glowing and more even, in a week. I would recommend this to anyone." —ssstephanie

A reviewer showing how much peach fuzz it removed with glowing skin after

A model applying the cream with text 24/7 nonstop moisture

Promising review: "I had never used the Kiehl's brand before buying the Ultra Facial Cream. My face always gets so dry and flakey during the extremely cold winter weather in Ohio. I started using this product shortly before the cold weather started and never saw any signs of dryness. As soon as I finished the cream and started using another, my skin turned on me and went dry/flakey like usual. Promising review: My wife probably contributes 500 million a year to the multi-billion dollar face crap industry. She buys a bottle, uses it half-way and buys another bottle of something different. Our porch looks like a Nordstrom's make-up department daily with all the packages we receive. I used this stuff as I do all the face cleaners she buys, and it is absolutely amazing. I do not have acne, but I do get break-outs and this stuff stops it right in it's tracks. I can have a zit in full morph, clean my face with this stuff at night, and when I wake up it's gone. I can honestly say that we are on our third bottle and she agrees. This is the first time in eight years she has bought two bottles of the same product, much less the third. And it's a third of the price of most the stuff she buys. Now I may be able to buy a boat in the near future." —Cory T.

The bottle of cleanser with tropical fruits

Promising reviews: "I absolutely love this face wash! I suffered with painful acne for a couple of years and tried everything from astringents to Proactiv, and even Rodan + Fields. They always made my acne worse and more painful. This stuff, though, has kept my face completely clear for more than a year now. This amazing wash leaves my skin feeling so refreshed. The scent is relaxing and refreshing; it’s not too fragrant, nor does it smell like chemicals. I seriously look forward to using this stuff every day! Also, don’t expect it to smell like pineapples. It’s fruity, but not tropical. This wash also leaves my skin feeling squeaky-clean, so as I wouldn’t call it a drying wash, it is definitely not a moisturizing wash. I just hope that someone buys it and loves it as much as I do! Seriously! Skin products are expensive. This is SO worth it (and affordable)." —Gabby

"Love this facial cleaner! I've been using it for years and won't use anything else. I'm 61 years old with oily skin, prone to cystic type breakouts and wrinkles!! Not fair! This product cleans my skin very well, removes the oils without over drying and does not promote breakouts. I love this facial cleanser!!" —Kindle Customer

Promising review: "This is one of those few products I’ve used that gave me visible difference after one use. The only thing I would change is to have a box that just have the nose pore strips since my main concern is the pores on my nose. Overall, great product!" —Jia W.

Promising review: "I have very few skin care items I buy more than once. Just not usually THAT impressed. That being said, I LOVE this mask. It bubbles up upon application and the tiny bubbles bursting itch and tickle like crazy but stick out the 10 minutes. The first time I used it after washing it off you could literally see the junk and oil sitting on top of my skin as it had been pushed to the surface. The next morning my skin glowed. I have used it a few times since, not much gunk to push to the top now but can see the pores are empty. Def will be buying more, especially for Christmas presents." —Alice D.

I have oily skin and was super hesitant but the reviews were just too good not to try it. This dewy sheen is NOT the same as 'oily' skin. I only need one pump instead of the recommended two and that works perfectly! It gives me a wondrous glow. This is one of my favorite products in my cabinet!" —Andrea M.

Get it from Glossier for $24.

    22. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel absorbs quickly into your skin, moisturizing skin with hyaluronic acid (it holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water!). Flaking skin, you have met your MATCH!

    The jars of cream

Promising review: "This is the moisturizer I have been waiting for my whole life. I have tried moisturizers from what feels like every brand, from the drugstore to the high-end expensive stuff at Sephora. This stuff feels incredible on my skin — it feels like a relief to put it on. It's not even remotely greasy, absorbs almost instantly, and has the lightest, cleanest fragrance. Other, heavier moisturizers left me with tiny clusters of new blemishes every morning (so frustrating), but this hasn't clogged my pores at all, and my skin feels soft and plump. 24. Aztec Secret Healing Clay Mask ~pulsates~ as it works its magic, banishing the toughest acne and deep cleaning your pores with calcium bentonite clay.

For best results, mix it with apple cider vinegar.

Promising review: "If you’re looking for raw honesty, here it is. I have had cystic acne on and off for years. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars getting facials, on various acne medication, you name it — I have probably tried it. Benzyl peroxide does a good job at killing acne causing bacteria and reducing stubborn blemishes, but nothing has helped to shrink my pores (not even Clinique’s fancy pore scrub) until this! Let me warn you. It will not cure your skin over night. It’s going to take 2-3 times to really see improvement. Your skin will feel tight and be red for 30 minutes- 1 hour afterwards. It’s not always comfortable. I apply moisturIzer soon after and that helps. I wish I had found this sooner. It has even taken away those stubborn little bumps that are superficial (they never come to a head, just pus trapped under the skin). NOTHING has been able to do that until now. Don’t waste your time and money - buy this!! You won’t regret it!" —Brendon Jelenc

Get a one-pound jar from Amazon for $12.90.

A reviewer's chin before/after use with reduced dryness and flakiness

Promising review: "I have oily but flaky skin in winter. It's really annoying, no matter how much I exfoliate or moisturize, my cheeks get flaky. I can't even wear foundation or powder because it will make the flaky texture more obvious... Anyway, out of pure desperation and tired of spending money on scrubs and moisturizers, I purchased it and started using this a few days ago. It has kept me flake-free! It doesn't leave a greasy film, it sinks right into my skin. I even wore it with makeup today and my skin was smooth and flake-free. My makeup stayed nice all day. I wish I had tried that sooner, I have the same problem every winter! I apply it from head to toe. It's awesome and you get so much product for the money." —MLK77

    BuzzFeed / Maitland Quitmeyer

Vitamin C can cause sun sensitivity and I am already SUPER SENSITIVE to the sun, so make sure you also put on a good sunscreen in the morning! After just a couple weeks, the pigmentation on my cheeks definitely reduced, and some pesky rough texture on my chin and nose faded away. I definitely noticed glow-ier and plumper skin when I woke up in the morning. The acne marks on my cheeks are basically totally gone, and my skin feels brighter than ever. And no breakouts or sensitive reactions! Just a few drops a night is all it takes!

It’s moisturizing without being heavy or sticky and it doesn’t break me out. The ingredients are high quality and have done wonders for my aging (55-year-old) skin. Plus I ran out of my other moisturizer, that was good...but almost twice the price. I have VERY sensitive skin. I get rosacea, eczema, and it doesn't take much to make my face all red, and stingy and hot. Well my face was already feeling tight because I washed my face and then realized there was no moisturizer left...I put on this cream, and there was no stinging or burning. I didn't need to use very much at all! And as soon as my skin drank it up my skin felt hydrated, supple, and velvety to the touch. Last night, I put these on a few acne problems (a small cyst, a whitehead, and a pimple I shouldn’t have picked and has been a bump for about three weeks now.) I just woke up and am writing this review in disbelief. THEY'RE FLAT! Gone! All of them! I could cry I’m so happy. The packaging is also ideal, because it allows you to conveniently and easily peel the stickers off without stretching them out or folding them back on themselves. Do yourself and your complexion a huge favor! Have these on hand for a stubborn zit when you really need help. Make sure you apply them to completely clean and dry skin." —Caitlyn

Promising review: "I love this. I've been buying it for years back to the time it was called Zit Zapper. In spite of the name change, it's the same great product and is effective for me on those big, swollen blemishes. I dab it on as soon as I feel one coming on and it holds it at bay and helps it to heal. I also use it on other types of infections and it works great." —avlb

A reviewer's face before/after showing reduced acne and redness

Promising review: "After being to multiple dermatologists and not having any luck, I was feeling hopeless. I started to accept my acne was chronic, since I’m 25 and have had it since 13. My dermatologist had always told me 5% benzoyl peroxide is the same as 10%, so don’t use it. Well, 12 years later and no results, I decided to not listen to the 'expert' and give it a try for myself. I held out until the six-week mark to give it a full chance. Through dry skin, extra moisturizing, and washing my face with this product twice per day as directed (letting it sit on my face for three to five minutes before washing) I am pleased to report my skin is the clearest it has ever been in the past 12 years. When I was talking to one of my clients about this product, she said, 'I didn’t know you had acne, your skin looks so smooth and porcelain.' Well... that was a new one! Lol. I am so glad I took the risk! It will definitely dry out your skin, so find a good moisturizer." —Mackenzie

    The pump container

Promising review: "This is by far the best facial I have ever tried! I have used it once a week for three weeks now and my skin feels as soft as a baby! My pores are less visible now, the hyper-pigmentation due to acne has faded and there was a dramatic improvement in texture and tone. And I also got a lot of compliments on my skin now. I have sensitive, acne prone skin and it stings for about two minutes upon application (nothing uncomfortable!). In my opinion, I think that this product is worth the price!" —Zarni

The formula chock-full of essential oils (like tea tree and jojoba) are great for anyone who hasn't seen success with spot treatments with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. 🙋‍♀️

Promising review: "I used to use Zapzyt (benzoyl peroxide 10%) as spot treatment, but it just stopped working one day. After trying a bunch of different products using salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and even trying some corticoid creams. NOTHING WORKED!!!! I ended up looking up some other natural solutions and came across this spot treatment. After using it for a week on two of my stubborn pimples (that I had basically tried every type of product on), THEY FINALLY WENT AWAY. I WAS SHOCKED. They were on my face for at least three weeks before I tried using this spot treatment, and they went away in less than a week! I recommend this to anyone who has stubborn acne like mine. Another plus is, this stuff feels and smells way better than any other acne treatment I've tried. Other treatments dry my skin out like nobody's business leaving my skin patchy, while using this didn't really affect my skin moisture. Also, it leaves a nice minty feeling on the skin for the first few seconds it is applied. I looooveee the smell of it. Definitely will buy again when I run out!" —Annabelle H.

Promising review: "I have such dry skin in the winter — it becomes flaky, red, and textured. I came home to my parents' house for the pandemic and the environment here is even drier than where I live, so my skin has been SERIOUSLY suffering. But this moisturizer is so luxuriously rich! It's creamy and thick but absorbs into my skin so fast, leaving it cool and moisturized. And the scent is lovely! It's woodsy and floral, which I love!" —eschmitt

    The dropper-style bottle of serum

Promising review: “I’m on my third bottle and I’m so relieved to have it in my life. Im in my mid-twenties and started getting hormonal acne. Specifically around my chin and jaw line. Nothing was helping and every time I got near my period, I would break out at the same spots, and it would take my skin weeks to recover only to break out again. By day two my skin already was less red and it completely had my breakouts under control for my next period. For me some period break outs are worse than others and even if I get a breakout its very small and gone fast.” —Laurasogo

A reviewer with decreased acne and more glowing skin between photos taken in november and january

Promising review: "I wished there was a way to give this product 10 stars. Let me first say I'm a VERY picky retinol user. I usually use a high end organic product (aka: Origins) but thought I'd give this one a whirl given the reviews. I'm a tried and proven convert now. I LOVE this product. It is so luxurious, never causes burning, peeling or redness. Truthfully, I think this is best retinol cream I've ever used and that's just how it FEELS on my skin. Let's talk results. This product changed the playing field. With one use, I could tell this was different. I'm addicted now and have a hard time finishing up my other products! People at work ask me what I'm doing to my skin. They tell me how super soft, supple and radiant my skin looks. I thought it was just me that noticed but others have too. I don't want to waste any other existing product so I'm going to still use that up first before ordering more, but once it's gone, I'll be ordering this full time from now on. I'm also going to try out their other products as well." —Geri F.

I had mild psoriasis on my elbows and it is all but gone. One day I got a sunburn and put this on and all the stinging was gone immediately and it never peeled. I have tried many top-of-the line products before this. This is simply fabulous. A friend told me that he had been recommended this by his dermatologist and it was wonderful. I believed him! Promising review: "Story time: My lips were flaking more than the snow outside. They were dryer than the desert. I followed the directions and it wasn’t cutting into my skin like a thousand knives of fire as it sloughs away the disgustingly gross layer of cells. It also moisturizes like a warm hug. After rinsing away those hug crystals, my lips are given that new life and soft enough to not hurt others’ feelings when I yell about the 2016 Chicago Cubs being the greatest baseball team.
