September 2 - National Beheading Day

Via giphy.com

Yes, it’s kinda sick and confusing that this is an actual holiday, but it’s the perfect excuse to have a Game of Thrones marathon. Whether you’re caught up on the series or not, pop a squat on the couch and feast your eyes on the gore—I recommend season one, episode nine in particular.

September 3 - National Skyscraper Day

For a relaxing mid-week break, find a public rooftop and take some time to appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of skyscrapers. Or, if you don’t live in a city, simply listen to Demi Lovato on repeat.

September 5 - National Cheese Pizza Day

Via giphy.com

Whether you go out, order in, or make your own ‘za from scratch, just make sure to eat double the cheese. Or if you want to really go all out, try mixing cheeses! Mozzarella, parmesan, monterey jack, gouda… the pizza is your oyster.

September 7 - National Grandparents Day

Via giphy.com

If you live close to a grandparent, go visit them today. If you’re too far away, call them, send an email, or mail a card (you still have time if you do it now!). If your grandparents are no longer with you, take some time to look at family photo albums, or ask an older family member to tell you a story about them. You may learn something amazing about them that you never knew before.

September 8 - Pardon Day

Via fundraisergrrl.tumblr.com

On this day in 1974, President Gerald Ford pardoned President Richard Nixon from any wrongdoing related to Watergate. Essentially, this is a day to forgive someone’s mistakes. Yes, that’s easier said than done, but holding a grudge is just as burdensome. So go ahead—pardon away and kiss that negativity buh-bye.

September 9 - Wonderful Weirdos Day

Via giphy.com

This is a day to embrace and celebrate your inner weird side. If your IDGAF-style attitude means you already do this everyday, then keep on keeping on. But if you’re typically on the prim and proper side, use this day to let loose.

September 10 - National Swap Ideas Day

Via giphy.com

Whether it’s at work or at home, bouncing ideas off of people close to you is great for getting those creative energy juices flowing. This totally random but actually inspiring holiday encourages you to trade ideas with other people, fostering an awesome sense of teamwork.

September 11 - Patriot Day

Via giphy.com

OK, so this isn’t quite offbeat, but today requires an exception. Remember 9/11/01 however you see fit, be proud to be an American, and say a “thank you” to everyone who protects you day-to-day, from local firefighters to army generals.

September 12 - National Chocolate Milkshake Day

Via giphy.com

Fun fact: Chocolate shakes were invented in 1885, which means the creamy, rich, and frothy treats have been blessing our mouths for a cool 129 years. You can whip up a classic shake at home by combining 1 cup milk, 1 cup vanilla ice cream, 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup, and a bit of vanilla extract. But the beautiful thing about shakes is that they can be slurped in tons of different ways. Try adding peanut butter, mint, dark chocolate syrup, or even booze to amp up the flavor.

September 13 - Roald Dahl Day

Via giphy.com

The late British writer—who penned classic children’s books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and James and the Giant Peach—is remembered every year on his birthday with a worldwide celebration. Plus, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which makes it extra special. If you’re in the U.K., head to the Roald Dahl Museum in Little Missenden, Buckinghamshire, for the official festivities. Or, celebrate at home by watching Willy Wonka, reading any of Dahl’s books, or eating a bucketload of chocolate and Everlasting Gobstoppers.

September 14 - National Pet Memorial Day

Via giphy.com

If you’re a poor, unfortunate soul with no pets in your life, you may roll your eyes when you find out there’s a day solely dedicated to celebrating them. But for the rest of us, we’ll gladly welcome any excuse to shower our pets with more adoration on the “official” day. This is a holiday to remember any pets you’ve had, past or present. If you’ve lost one, pay homage to them any way you see fit—pets should never be forgotten.

Via giphy.com

Today is the day to swallow your pride, reach into your pocket, and muster up the confidence to pay that extra $1.50 for guacamole at Chipotle. If you’re a frugal person, it might kill your soul a little bit, but it’ll be so, so worth it.

September 17 - Constitution Day

Via giphy.com

Doesn’t celebrating the ratification of the U.S. Constitution sound like fun?! Well, it should, because those measly pieces of paper gave us our government, dammit. If you’re a history nerd, put your knowledge to the test by finding out if you can name all 39 delegates who signed the doc. If you’re couldn’t care less, just watch any political movie. The Patriot, All the President’s Men, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, National Treasure…there are tons to choose from.

For the unacquainted, the official Oktoberfest is a ginormous, 16-day festival held in Munich, Germany, where copious amounts of beer and sausage are consumed. The beauty of Oktoberfest, though, is that it’s celebrated all over the world, with tons of local festivities popping up all around the U.S. Get your fest on by donning your best lederhosen and raising a pint to Germany. Know a copywriter? Give them a hug today. Their job is a never-ending crusade against typos, and they deserve a little love for having to see grammatically incorrect symbols of stupidity everywhere.

September 25 - National Comic Book Day

Not to be confused with Free Comic Book Day (that one’s celebrated in May), this is a day to simply praise the awesomeness that comes from comic books. Buy one, read one, share one, or channel your inner Summer Roberts and dress up as one.
