Palm Beach Restaurants: Ben Gordon's Top 5

Ben Gordon calls Palm Beach, Florida home. The founder of Palm Beach-based supply chain merger and acquisition firm BG Strategic Advisors (BGSA) and Managing Partner of local private equity investment firm Cambridge Capital loves the ever-growing cultural scene of his city. And turns out, he also loves to eat. We asked Palm Beach’s leading advisor and supply chain investor (and avid foodie) to guide us through Palm Beach's best, trendiest and most iconic restaurants. Here’s what we learned:

1. Cucina

Although (sadly) closed for renovations for the summer, Cucina Dell’Arte is a spot not to be missed. It’s more than just Italian — it’s an authentic dining experience complete with bites channeling rich Southern Italian and Mediterranean specialties, freshly-caught seafood and local produce. Think: handmade pappardelle and savory beef ragu, mouth-watering fire oven pizzas, delectable burgers, fresh Italian salads, and English pea, pesto and lemon ricotta with fresh herbs.

What’s so great about Cucina is that it’s set itself apart from the high-end Italian restaurants covering the Palm Beach area, focusing instead on a cozy, casual, and family-friendly atmosphere with a menu that’s both unique and affordable.

2. Leila Restaurant

Step out of Palm Beach and right into the Middle East at Leila Restaurant. With its lively Arabic music, beautiful outdoor patio and unforgettable menu, this spot can only be described in one word: authentic. Complete with traditional Middle Eastern delicacies, rich and relaxing hookahs, fresh Turkish coffee and even belly dancer entertainment on the weekends, it’s no wonder it was voted the Open Table Diner’s Choice in 2015.

Whether you’re looking for a signature dish such as the Shish Tawook (chicken breast marinated in garlic and olive oil and zested with lemon), traditional beef kebabs, fresh falafel or simply an unbeatable hummus plate, there’s something for all.

3. Agora Mediterranean Kitchen

In case you didn’t get your Mediterranean fill from Cucina or Leila (is there ever enough?), another must-try is Northwood’s Agora Mediterranean Kitchen. It’s no surprise it’s rated the #1 Mediterranean restaurant in Palm Beach; with divine starters (“mezes”) like lemon chicken soup and braised leeks to main dishes like grilled Aegean octopus and Manti dumplings, it’s not possible to make a wrong choice.

The vibe is a mix of homey, funky and colorful, complete with rustic Mediterranean decor and a staff that’s just as warm.

4. Chez L’Épicier

Once you’ve had your fill of Mediterranean, it’s time to try something truly unique: the unforgettable French Canadian cuisine of Chez L’Épicier. Located on the scenic Palm Beach Island, the original Montreal hotspot operated by French Canadian chef Laurent Godbout and his wife opened a second location.

The restaurant’s authentic French country vibe is no match for its food: from summer all-you-can-eat mussel specials and Montreal style smoked meat sandwiches to starters like ribeye carpaccio with black truffle mayonnaise and sides of foie gras mac & cheese (not to mention amazing and fresh cocktails), you’re in store for a truly unbeatable dining experience.

Don’t forget a homemade French macaron for the road.

5. Field of Greens

If you’re ready to get your health on and are searching for something a bit more casual and informal, head to West Palm Beach’s Field of Greens. The name says it all: this place leaves no shortage of options for vegan, gluten-free, and generally obsessively healthy eaters.

With tons of hardy breakfast options, choose-your-greens salads, creative wraps, endless avocado varieties and beautifully-crafted acai bowls, it’s the perfect lunch spot with friends or co-workers. Food aside, they also have refreshing cold-pressed juices, juice shots, protein shakes, and smoothies big enough to replace a meal.
