Stroopwafel: A caramel cookie that is crunchy on the outside, but has a gooey soft center

Bitterballen: Crumb-coated, deep-fried pieces of ragout, usually served with mustard

Ontbijtkoek: Ginger cake usually enjoyed with some butter on top

Raw herring: This type of fish is eaten raw and usually dipped in chopped onions

Tompouce (or tompoes): Puff pastry that has a thick layer of whipped custard and a topping of pink icing

Snert: Thick pea soup filled with lots of vegetables and smoked sausage

Oliebollen: Deep fried ball of dough sometimes filled with different types of fruits, nuts, and raisins

Stamppot: There are many different types, usually potatoes and vegetables mushed together, eaten with different types of meat

Poffertjes: Small fluffy pancakes commonly enjoyed with powdered sugar and some butter
