Simple Sauces 4 Ways

With the new Goodful immersion blender, store-bought sauces will be a thing of the past.

Classic Marinara

Servings: 6-8

1⁄4 cup olive oil

1 large onion, chopped

8 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Pinch of red pepper flakes

1 teaspoon kosher salt

2 tablespoons tomato paste

2 28-ounce cans of whole peeled tomatoes 2 whole sprigs of fresh basil

1⁄4 cup chopped fresh basil

For Serving:

Cooked spaghetti

Shredded Parmesan cheese Torn fresh basil

  1. In a large Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot, heat the olive oil over medium-low heat until shimmering. Add the onion and sauté for 7-10 minutes, until translucent.

  2. Add the garlic and sauté until fragrant, 1-2 minutes more. Add the oregano, red pepper flakes, and salt. Cook for 30 seconds, then add the tomato paste. Stir to combine and cook for another minute.

  3. Add the canned tomatoes, breaking the tomatoes up with a wooden spoon. Bring to a simmer, then add the basil sprigs. Cover, reduce the heat to low, and gently simmer for 25-30 minutes.

  4. Remove the sauce from heat. Use Macy’s Goodful Immersion Blender to puree the marinara. Season to taste with salt and pepper as needed. Stir in the chopped basil.

  5. Serve immediately over spaghetti, topped with Parmesan and torn basil.

  3. Add the canned tomatoes and simmer for 10 minutes.
