Basically Every Single Celeb Is Doing This "That's Not My Name" Trend On TikTok, And IMHO, It's Kiiind Of A Mess

    Send help.

Lordt help me! There is a new trend on TikTok, and IDK why, but it has turned my brain to mush. Let me first say: I love TikTok. I watch it 2 inches away from my eyeballs, in the darkness of my room for three hours before bed every night.

A person in bed under the covers staring at their phone

But this recent explosion of celebrities using the song "That's Not My Name" by the Ting Tings with various objectives is causing my entire soul to melt and seep into the ground, where I'll become one with the sewer water. Also, I do not dislike any of these celebrities, I AM JUST BAFFLED BY THIS TREND.

Let me explain for anyone who doesn't know it already. I believe it started with Alicia Silverstone. She added a montage of characters she has played with the song playing.

Drew Barrymore seems to have pushed the trend to the next level, because many were inspired by her rendition.

I believe the whole point of it all is to be like, "I'm [insert actor here], NOT Stacy/Mary/Ruby or Janice (pretend names of characters they'd played). Those are just characters!!!" However, the more celebs who do the trend, the less consistent the messaging is.

Like, okay, Jessica Alba's starts off fine, but then it says "Founder" and "Mother." Is she saying she is NOT a founder or mother?? Because factually, she is both of those things.

And Christina Aguilera did one that just stated everything she actually is. Also, does anyone call her "Dirrty?" That's just the era of her music people refer to. I'm confused.

My name is Christina, but they call me…. ❤️This could have gone on forever… #theycallme #thatsnotmyname Inspired by @Alicia Silverstone

Heidi Klum did this one, but IDK what's going on here. We know you are not any of these things, they were Halloween costumes!

It might seem like I'm angry for no reason, and that's because I AM. I feel I am being gaslit. Let's continue.

The Miz did one. Again, it only lists things people actually call him. He is indeed a WWE champion.

    I wear many hats, but tomorrow it’s all about the #ItCouple at #RoyalRumble 😎 #WWE #thatsnotmyname

Here's Gordon Ramsay's. The first clip is literally him labeled as "Chef Ramsay." That's 100% what people call him.

And then there are the versions of these videos whose intent I *think* is to brag about all the movies/TV shows they've been in??? I am very happy for all their credits, but...well, just watch:

Here's Chloe Grace Moretz's. It's great that she played a character named Chelsea. I am happy for her. But TBH, I've never really confused her as a human with that role.

Soo.. it felt befitting that this be my very first tiktok !!! #MyNameIs

And I really support this endeavor from Garret Clayton — and yes, that's all, I support this endeavor.

Then there's Rita Ora's. I'm a huge fan and I love you, but there were so many ways this could have been done. Like, remember when Debra Messing called you Rita Oro?? THAT WAS ACTUALLY NOT YOUR NAME!!!

    Anyway, guys, there are more.

    So many more.

They have taken up my feed.

And I don't know what to do about it!!!

I feel I am being targeted.

Why is this happening to me??

I'll leave you with one that was actually good and gives me hope for others. Idina Menzel stuck the landing. For that, I'm grateful.
