Rebel Wilson is fairly new to the Hollywood scene, getting her start in the movie biz only two years ago in Bridesmaids (heard of it?). Since then, Rebel's success has skyrocketed, which isn't shocking — she's awesome. She just finished a pilot called Super Fun Night, and her next big thing will be taking on hosting duties at the MTV Movie Awards on April 14. She's basically stolen the show at every awards show she's attended (remember the pubic-hair T-shirt?), so — no pressure! — there's a 99.9% chance that this one will be stupendous. BuzzFeed chatted with Rebel over the phone about getting ready for the awards show, her friendship with Zac Efron, and, of course, the age-old question — is she team dog or team cat? Here's what she had to say.
So, you're going to be hosting the MTV Movie Awards. Are you really excited for that?
Rebel Wilson: Yeah. I mean, if you look at the hosts who have done it over the years, it's been, like, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Will Smith — some of the biggest names in Hollywood who have hosted the show. So I'm like, oh yeah, no pressure. So I'll try to be really original. (laughs)
Is basically everything set and ready to go? Or do you have some tricks up your sleeve that you haven't told anyone yet?
RW: Well, I've been filming a pilot that I've written and produced on ABC. It's called Super Fun Night, so I've only just finished that, so now I'm into doing all the prep for the movie awards and I'm writing the whole two-hour show myself — it's a lot of work, I'm realizing. It's going to be working literally right up until the minute we go onstage, because there's so many moving pieces and it's a combination of stage tricks and live performance with all the integrated movie stuff and scenes that I want to film. So yeah, we'll now be working every day up until April 14 to try to give the best show, the funniest show, to everyone possible.
And we saw you and Channing Tatum in one of your first promos for it. You just got to work with the Sexiest Man Alive.
RW: That was amazing. I'm like, how am I so lucky that I get to work with the biggest — yeah, Sexiest Man Alive — biggest A-list movie star on the planet, to just come and spend the day. Like, he doesn't get paid for doing that, he just came because he wanted to do it.
So was he down for anything?
RW: Yeah, he has such a good sense of humor. And he kind of just gets it — like, I think he doesn't take himself too seriously. He's just really funny, and he was kind of playing the straight man and I was doing crazy stuff around him and we just got on so well. So now I'm like, OMG, we have to do now a proper movie together. It was a good audition for me, to be like, "Heyyy, Channing! If we did one together, this is what it could be like every day!"
Right, you on his lap, thisclose to him.
RW: Yeah, and it was so embarrassing — in one take I got stuck on him, I couldn't get off. I got lodged in between him and the steering wheel. And I think he thought I was joking, but I was literally stuck. I was saying, "I can't, I can't get out."
Well it's not the worst place to be stuck if you had to be stuck anywhere...
RW: It's true, and he's so gorgeous in real life as well. Trust me, up close, he's gorgeous.
That's not the only interaction you've had with one of the sexiest men alive. You've also been kissed on the cheek by Zac Efron and you were at a Lakers game together — and I must say, I'm extremely jealous because he's my number-one crush.
RW: Oh, Zac Efron. Oh yeah, he's very nice.
Are you guys friends?
RW: Yeah, like, we have each other's numbers! But he's busy — he's about to do a movie called Townies with Seth Rogen. And he's such a cool dude. Something people might not know about him is he's a really good freestyle rapper. Like, really good. Like, he could go in and battle.
Would you guys ever rap together? You guys should do a rap single together.
RW: Yeah, that would be friggen sweet. (laughs) I remember when I met him, we were both guests on The Ellen Show and then I was rapping on that show and he kind of knew I could rap, and then he wanted to show me his rap skills — and he's, like, really good. Like, I'm not exaggerating. He must practice.
OK, so other than those two, who else would you say are the sexiest man and sexiest woman alive?
RW: Well, I'd say Channing Tatum, but we just talked about him — so, like, cutest? I'd say that guy Logan Lerman from Perks of Being a Wallflower. And then...sexiest female, I'd have to go with Jennifer Lawrence.
Ah, so you're a J.Law fan?
RW: Yeah, yeah, and I've met her. I met her at a party and she was super-duper nice. She's really quite tall. Which I found — I don't know if you get that impression when you see her in movies, but she's quite tall. Yeah, and she's just really nice and I love The Hunger Games and I can't wait for the new one to come out.
Ooh, would we ever see you in a role in The Hunger Games?
RW: Um, seriously, I have had a meeting about being in The Hunger Games. Yes.
Oh! In what district?
RW: It was one of the people in the capitol. That's all I'll say.
That would be good. That's a good choice.
RW: Yeah, because there aren't a lot of roles open, because they've all already been cast, but that would be awesome. I'd love to be in The Hunger Games.
So this is kind of a throwback question, but in Bridesmaids, you were in most of your scenes with Kristen Wiig. What was it like on set, and was it a lot of improv? Or mostly scripted?
RW: Yeah, so what had happened was when I auditioned for Bridesmaids, I auditioned for the Megan role, who Melissa McCarthy played. So I was an alternative choice if Melissa couldn't do the role, but then they liked me so much that in my audition for the part, they go, "Oh, well, we've got to get Rebel in the movie." But in the script Kristen only had one male roommate — but they kind of just added in those scenes, so all of that stuff was improvised. Bridemaids was my first job in America, and basically it was just a week of coming in early every morning and just improvising all day with Kristen and Matt Lucas. It was like a dream job, because I love improvising, 'cause you don't have to learn any lines. The gloves come off, you say whatever, and obviously it was, like, a brilliant first time, because look how good Bridesmaids did!
We love animals here at BuzzFeed, so I have to ask: puppies or kittens?
RW: I would have to say puppies because I come from a family of dog showers. Like, from a family of professional dog showers, so yeah — I'd have to say puppies.
And last one: bacon or Nutella?
RW: Oh, Nutella, definitely.
