Parasite won, like, 10,000 Oscars tonight, which is exactly how it should be. However, during the acceptance speech for Best Picture, the fricken' awards show people decided to cut off the producers in the middle of their thank yous!!
After one producer said thanks, another went up to say something but the stage went dark and the spotlight was put on Jane Fonda, who was gonna close the show and say good night.
But Jane Fonda stood there for a second while a revolt started to happen in the crowd. I was confused and nervous.
Then I saw these little arms up in the air.
And then the camera cut to the first row, where I realized the raucous crowd was actually Tom Hanks and Charlize Theron leading a chant saying "UP, UP" to bring the stage lights back on so that the winners could finish their speech.
They used their pure star power to get. shit. done.
And it worked. The stage lights came back on. I mean, if Tom Hanks is telling you to put the lights back on, you sure as hell better put those damn lights back on.
Thank god, too, because the rest of the speech was given by this woman, who I now love more than anything in this world.
So yeah, praise be to famous people who chant. That's all! Night!
