Brazilian Youtubers "Jeitinho Carioca" used Pharrell Williams' hit song "Happy" to address Rio de Janeiro's current cultural and socioeconomic issues.

1. The cost of hosting the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.


The estimated 11 billion dollar cost of hosting the World Cup, not to mention the 2016 Olympics in Rio, have sparked outrage among Brazilian citizens, leading some protesters to claim there won't be a World Cup (#NãoVaiTerCopa).

7. Chaotic air travel conditions.


The picture below displaying a board of delayed flights in Rio's Santos Dumont airport highlights the chaotic environment often found travelling into the city. World Cup flight restrictions have worsened matters by forcing customers to cancel or reroute their flights.

11. Government dissatisfaction.


Palácio Guanabara, the headquarters for the state of Rio de Janeiro, has become a major target for ongoing protests that began last June. Discontent over government spending, crumbling infrastructure and widespread corruption have raised hostility toward local and national politicians alike.
