Think about how much you’ve changed over the past five years. Do you have the same goals? Do you dress the same? Have you had your heart broken? Have you cut your hair? Have you become nicer? More sarcastic? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you’ve evolved as a person. How we look and act is a direct reflection of the things that have happened in our lives to lead us to where we are now. According to a Time article, humans are constantly changing even if we don’t believe that we are. You are the lead character in your own life and just like on television, you are constantly growing and evolving. Every great moment, life lesson, and traumatic experience has led you to become the person you are today.

Television shows and movies have come a long way for women. Female roles didn’t always have depth, character or a storyline. Even fashion choices for women were limited. In fact, back in the 1960’s, people were so angered by Mary Tyler Moore’s decision to wear pants on the Dick Van Dyke show that they had to limit her to one pant wearing scene per episode. Now in 2017, female representation in the media and television is more significant than ever. All over the world, young girls were inspired by the intelligent, beautiful women of Hidden Figures, and the all-female cast and crew of Wonder Woman.

Just like those girls, sometimes you find yourself connecting to a female character and her experiences on the show or movie. Maybe it’s the way she dresses, how she carries herself, her whip smart responses or her quirky personality. You find a piece of yourself in her because her journey is somewhat similar to yours. This blog will be all about unearthing these characters and their importance on and off the screen. I hope you’ll follow me along this journey of discovery, and maybe even discover something about yourself on the way. #selfdiscovery
