8 Of The Best Harry Potter Fan Theories

Maybe the Dursleys weren’t such a bad bunch after all

Posted on

1. The Dursleys were affected by the horcrux within Harry

It's common knowledge that the Dursleys had very little love for their nephew, however what if it wasn’t their fault? In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, we discover that when a person comes in contact with a horcrux it brings out the worst in them - think Ron and Umbridge with the locket. Ok so Umbridge is already the devil before the locket but the point still stands. Could it be possible that the reason the Dursleys are so cruel is that they have been exposed to a horcux for over 11 years?

This theory has been widely discredited though because no one else seems be that way around Harry.

2. Dumbledore is death

The Deathly Hollows tells the tale of three brothers, one who dies for power, the second for love and the last greets death like an old friend. Many people have surmised the three brothers are in fact Voldemort, Snape and Harry. Voldemort like the first brother dies trying to become the most powerful wizard who ever lived. Snape dies having lived with the constant torment of losing the woman he loves – Lily Potter. And finally when Harry dies who should he meet on the platform but his old friend Dumbledore. It makes sense, you know it does.

3. Harry is now immortal

In Trelawney’s prophecy about Harry (or Neville) and Voldemort she says “either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives”. Whilst many believe that this means one must kill the other there could be more to it than that. What if they can only be killed by each other? This would mean with Voldemort out of the picture Harry cannot be killed by anyone meaning he is immortal.

4. Draco Malfoy is a werewolf

This theory suggests that after Lucius Malfoy disappoints The Dark Lord by being unable to retrieve the prophecy in Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix, Draco is transformed into a werewolf by Greyback as punishment for his father's failings. You have to admit Draco starts to lose it a bit in the 6th book which could be because he is dealing with being a werewolf. He is often described as pale and ill looking in the 5th book and misses quidditch games.

5. The defence against the dark arts post is cursed

Ever wonder why no teacher lasts more than year in that particular post, it could actually be cursed. In the books we discover the Tom Riddle (aka The Dark Lord himself) was refused the post by Dumbledore. It is not farfetched to believe he cursed the position out of spite. This would also explain why Dumbledore never let Snape have the post as he knew and Snape was far too valuable as a spy to lose.

6. Ginny used love potion on Harry

Anyone else super confused why suddenly in the Half-Blood prince book Harry spontaneously falls in love with Ginny. It’s no secret that Ginny has always had the hots for him, so is it really that unbelievable that she took matters in her own hands and dosed him up good. I hope this one isn't true, because there is such a thing as consent Ginny Wesley.

7. Muggles and Wizards had a war before and the muggles won

This is quite a big one and wold explain why wizards keep themselves secret from muggles. Also the Ministry of Magic sounds more like a faction of the muggle government rather than its own entity. Also Avada Kedavra does sound an awful lot like abracadabra, is that word was passed down as something inherently magical from muggles who fought in the war?

8. And finally Hermione, Ron and Harry represent the other three houses

Despite all being in Gryffindor, they all display characteristics related to the other houses. Harry’s link to Slytherin is pretty obvious the whole speaking to snakes and being a horcrux should do it. Herminone's intelligence is clearly at Ravenclaw standard and Ron is easy going to loyal like a Hufflepuff. So why did they end up in Gryffindor? Maybe they asked to be, the hat takes your opinion into consideration.

Who knows maybe JK will confirm some of these theories in her next instalment on Pottermore, or maybe she will just keep us guessing.

Either way we can't get enough of the magical world of Harry Potter
