    #HelloHighlights: ADE 2018 In 22 Photos

This month, I returned to Amsterdam for the 23rd edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), the world's biggest celebration of dance music.

    Hallo! Hi! :)

Approximately 400,000 visitors from more than 100 countries participated in the festival designed to showcase the diversity of the industry as well as the vibrant city of Amsterdam.

I made Volkshotel my headquarters during the event. I've always enjoyed the view of the city from their top floors.

The Volkshotel also provided me with an extremely convenient base for a variety offerings...

On the rooftop of the Volkshotel, guests may indulge in outdoor hot tubs & a sauna.

One floor down, New York house music legend Jovonn presented a special 2.5 hour long DJ set for energetic dancers at Volkshotel over the weekend.

On the lowest level, in the back wing of Volkshotel is DJ Street, where 23 studios cater to 100 musicians, DJs, producers, bands, and musicians including Nachtbraker (seated, center).

Between events, I had great food in Amsterdam. At Milk Cafe, I brunched on extremely delicious bread (Definitely worth the calories!) topped with steak tartare. Also, do not skip their fresh ginger tea.

In the evening, I had cocktails and light bites at The W Hotel. Again, wonderful food. The steak skewers were perfectly prepared by Mr. Porter. Next trip, I definitely want to have dinner across the street at the Michelin-starred Duchess.

Back to ADE... The Playground is a popular element of the festival which transforms Amsterdam into the largest host of hardware workshops, movie screenings, studio sessions, and exhibitions.

The music festival featured over 2,500 artists and 600 day time conference speakers.

At the Art Hotel, a panel discussed the future of electronic music.

The massive event connects fans with hundreds of guest speakers, musicians, producers, artists, VJs... and each other at pop-ups as well as in-store and outdoor performances by top DJs, record labels, and artists.

I loved the interactive Ryoji Ikeda exhibit at EYE Filmmuseum in the new Amsterdam district known as Overhoeks. Ikeda is an artist famous for his minimalist audiovisual work which leverages mathematical concepts, quantum mechanics, sound, light, and data.

For a change of pace, I took a break from ADE for a canal cruise. I'm in Amsterdam, how could I not??

Aboard the Valentijn riverboat. Constructed in 1913, the exclusive Amsterdam sailing monument has been restored to its former glory and retains many of its original details including tropical wood, bevelled glass windows and fine fabrics.

By water... By land... During my inaugural trip to Amsterdam several years ago, I experienced my first ride in a Tesla. This month, I had my first ride in the Model X.

By car... By foot... By bike... Amsterdam is a beautiful city any time of day.

After taking hundreds of photos, I returned to Volkshotel "A place where there’s life 24/7 and creativity flows" for Luca de Rosso's light installation in Doka (The dark room in the basement), with DJ Enka providing music into the early morning hours.

Across the city, music included techno, trance, house, electro, acid, hip-hop, as well as drum 'n' bass.

More than 450 events took place over 140 locations across the city. I ended my trip by popping into the vinyl market at Volkshotel before heading back to Airport Schiphol.
