    10 Things I Wish I Knew Has A Freshmen

The information contained in this article is strictly for entertainment purposes. The opinions in no way reflect the opinions of the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences.

    1. Don't be Scared!

I know it's your first day on campus, and everything is new and exciting. You are bound to be nervous. But not to sound like a handbook, you don't have to be scared. This is going to be the best four years of your life. You got this!

    2. Study

Oh the old cliche, it's seriously important. So listen, study. Form study groups in your classes or study alone. Go to one of the Campus Libraries (like W.T. Young, or Fine Arts, or the Law Library) and find your secret study spot, and just study.

    3. Go to Office Hours

Professors set office hours for a reason, they want to see you. In fact, I would say that they love seeing you and answering your questions. Because unlike the myth that Professors hate their students they actually really care and want you to succeed.

    4. Negotiate your grades

I wish someone, anyone would have told me this my freshman year! Honestly, the best advice I ever got! When you go to office hours and you think you should have gotten a higher grade, talk about it and explain why you deserve more points. And if all else fails maybe your professor will be willing to help you get extra credit or just appreciate your honesty.

    5. Freshmen 15 is real

Ugh... It's honestly the worst. There is just so many good restaurants on campus, plus with the meal swipes. I mean really, what is the point in cooking? Well, when you finally realize you're 20 pounds over, we have the gym (Johnson Center) to go visit.

    6. Don't Procrastinate

Do I really need to explain this? Seriously, just don't do it. Because then you're up in the middle of night working on a ten page paper due tomorrow, stress eating and worried you won't finish in time (speaking from personal experience.)

    7. Free Stuff

I'm currently a baller on a budget. So when I go to campus I look for anything free, free t-shirts, free food, free earphones. Anything.

    8. Make New Friends

The most important part of college is making new friends. For me, I came to UK with many of my friends from high school. But sometimes you have to branch out and make new friends. And that's okay. Relationships change, grow or end. It's kind of like the circle of life. And if you're feeling down about it go to Frazee Hall and just talk with someone about it.

    9. Join Clubs

We have over 300 plus clubs on campus, (all of which is on under UK). We have clubs that range from Student Government to a Squirrel Watching club, so you should be able to find something. Pick out some and visit them, if you don't like it, find another. Explore and get involved.

    10. Follow Your Butterfly

"Follow your Butterfly," basically it means do what you love and follow it your whole life. If you don't want to do it anymore then follow a new butterfly. If you find that your bored of your major, tell your advisor and find a new path. College is a time for you to explore all your options, do it, and stay true to yourself.

    11. The End!
