A man got stuck Thursday on Morro Bay Rock in California after asking his fiancée to marry him.
Michael John Paul Banks, 27, from Fresno, scaled the southern side of the rock after sunrise to ask his girlfriend to be his wife over Facetime, the Morro Bay Police Department said.
But he got stuck when he tried to climb back down on the eastern side, California State Parks spokesperson Dennis Weber told BuzzFeed News.
People in the parking lot below heard him yelling for help, and they contacted authorities.
A California Highway Patrol chopper was dispatched to retrieve Banks as he perilously clung to the side.
The Morro Bay fire and police departments, as well as State Parks and Harbor Patrol, were called to the scene.
Banks was safely on land at around 9:30 a.m. with only a few scrapes. State park rangers and local law enforcement cited him for trespassing on the restricted land and for public intoxication.
The police department arrested Banks later on Thursday on unrelated drug charges.
San Luis Obispo Tribune reported Banks' girlfriend said "yes." Banks and his fiancee didn't return requests for interviews from BuzzFeed News.
