  1. Use a table saw to cut the pinewood into the following dimensions:
    1. a.1 x 4 x 30 in (1x)
    2. b.1 x 10 x 30 in (1x)
    3. c.1 x 2 x 9 in (2x)
    4. d.1 x 4 x 31⅝ in (1x)
    5. e.1 x 9⅛ x 3 ⅛ in (1x)
    6. f.1 x 4 x 10 in (2x)

  2. Take the two 2 x 9 in pieces and use a miter saw to cut 45-degree angles on one end of each.
  3. Pre-drill holes into each of the pieces of wood.
  4. Screw the 4 x 30-in piece to the 10 x 30-in piece at a 90-degree angle.
  5. Screw the 2 x 9-in pieces 1 inch from the ends of the 10 x 30-in piece, with the 45-degree cuts facing away from the 4 x 30-in piece.


  1. Pre-drill and screw the following pieces together to assemble the drop-down bottom of the shelf.
    1. a.1 x 4 x 31⅝-in (1x)
    2. b.1 x 9⅛ x 30⅛-in (1x)
    3. c.1 x 4 x 10-in (2x)


  1. Connect the top and bottom of the shelf using screws and the piano hinge.
  2. Screw the support hinges to the inside of the bottom of the shelf, on either side at a 45-degree angle. Screw the other end of the support hinges to the top shelf.
  3. Optional — coat with paint or wood finish. Let dry.
  4. Use a stud sensor and french cleat to mount the shelf onto the wall.
  5. Pull down on the lip of the shelf to reveal the drop-down storage!
