Response to People Are Pissed At This Magazine For Using A White Model In An Editorial About Afro Hair:
When Buzzfeed did the video on Henna and it’s many religious and deeply rooted cultural meaning for Indian men and women, they brought up the stupid henna you can get at the beach and asked the artist if it’s offensive. She literally laughed at how ridiculous of a question that was because why the hell would they care what silly beach vendors are doing - it’s all in good fun. Then the result was that everyone had lots of fun exploring new styles and culture and would love to expand on that. But god forbid anyone touches African culture - how dare they! The way people are acting is childish and shameful. Seriously. Stop.
As someone in the marketing industry, I thought most of these were incredibly clever. I don’t understand why it’s “cringeworthy” to make a play on national news.
