15 Places In Melbourne To Take Those Friends Visiting From Out Of Town

With great power comes great responsibility. Don't screw it up.

Posted on

1. Naked in the Sky, Fitzroy

Gratituous cityscape photo from cool rooftop bar: check.

2. Rucker's Hill, Northcote

The lesser known (and less busy) spot to get a cityscape shot from the north. Plus, there are usually a few food trucks parked there for dinner. Bonus.

3. Fairfield Boathouse, Fairfield

You can actually rent a rowboat and go out on the water. Wait 'til your friends find out you can do that in Melbourne.

4. The Astor Theatre, St Kilda

They just saved the damn thing, so the least you could do it go see a movie in its grand, classic cinema. Sessions will start again in June 2015.

5. Easey's, Collingwood

Combine their weird fascination with trams with something far cooler — eat a burger in a tram on the rooftop of a building in Collingwood.

6. Capital City Trail, Melbourne

If they're confident on two wheels, take them on a tour of the city via the Capital City Trail. Sure, it's a 30km tour, but you don't have to commit to the whole thing. Just do a section and call lunch.

7. South Melbourne Market, South Melbourne

If you don't want to battle the Queen Vic Market, South Melbourne is a better alternative. It's much more chilled, it's quaint and there are heaps of cute cafes close by.

8. Lui Bar, CBD

Luxe cocktails on the 55th floor of a luxe building. Duh.

9. Collingwood Children's Farm, Abbotsford

You should do this because baby animals are cute, and no guest can argue with that. And The Farm Cafe there is really pleasant too.

10. Lune Croissanterie, Elwood

That is, if they're not opposed to getting up at 6am. If they're are opposed, just show 'em the sweet, flaky pastry photos.

11. Doughboys Doughnuts, CBD

And if you can't get them up for pastries pre-7am, this is the ultimate alternative for sweet lovers who wanna sleep in; fresh, hand-dipped doughnuts.

12. Half Moon Bay, Black Rock

Arguably Melbourne's best hideaway beach. Even if it's not swimming weather, go for the fish and chips, and sand between your toes.

13. Heide Museum of Modern Art, Bulleen

Some of Melbourne's best art, in the best leafy location. Take a picnic!

14. Twerkshop, Fitzroy

Make their only Tuesday night in Melbourne one to remember. Get low in this "ghetto zumba" class, and get a beer after.

15. Market Lane Coffee, Prahran

So they can see how it's really done.
