Sophie Grégoire Trudeau Wants Us To Celebrate Male Allies For International Women's Day

Can we just have, like, one day?

Posted on

On Tuesday, Grégoire Trudeau posted a cute photo of herself and the PM holding hands and encouraged women to do the same with their favourite male allies.

"This week, as we mark International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate the boys and men in our lives who encourage us to be who we truly are, who treat girls & women with respect, and who aren’t afraid to speak up in front of others," she wrote.

"Take a picture holding hands with your male ally & share it on social media using the hashtag #TomorrowInHand. Together, we can create a movement that inspires more men to join the fight to build a better tomorrow with equal rights & opportunities for everyone… because #EqualityMatters."

Both Grégoire and her husband have been outspoken on their feminist identities, and this is hardly all she's doing for IWD. But people are wondering why we should celebrate men on the one day reserved women and girls.

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau wants to celebrate male allies on International Women's Day. Ok...?

Like, we just get the one day, ya know?

Ma'am please just let us have the day. #IWD2017

Let us have it.

Can women just have ONE DAY without having to give cookies to men for being decent humans? Please? #IWD2017

People on Facebook were equally befuddled.

Other comments included:

* "Ugh, really?!?! Don't we already celebrate men enough??"

* "I think I'll spend International Women's Day focused on the women who encouraged me to be who I am instead."

* "Although your heart is in good place....we could make International Women's Day one thing that we don't make about men."

As well as this thirsty opportunist:

* "Im single, can i borrow Justin to take a picture with him?"

Plus, allyship is sort of the least men can do at this point.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel also weighed in.

I've never had to have my hand held. #equalitymatters

And this person suggested a very viable alternative.
