Switzerland Bans The Sale Of Volkswagen Diesel Models

The sale of diesel-engine models has been temporarily banned after the car manufacturer admitted that emissions-cheating software had also been used in Europe.

The sale of Volkswagen diesel-engine models that could contain devices able to trick emissions tests has been temporarily halted in Switzerland.

Some 180,000 cars in the Euro 5 emission category are thought to be affected, the BBC reported. The ban involves only cars that have not yet been sold or registered.

Switzerland's decision to ban the sale of diesel-model Volkswagen's is the latest blow to the car manufacturer since it emerged that some VW cars sold in the US were able to alter engine performance during emissions tests.

On Thursday VW cars in Europe were also found to contain emissions-cheating software.

"We have been informed that also in Europe, vehicles with 1.6 and 2.0 liter diesel engines are affected by the manipulations that are being talked about," German transport minister Alexander Dobrindt said, according to Reuters.
