The designers condemned "non-traditional" families.

Elton John has hit out at designers Dolce & Gabbana on Instagram after they made comments condemning families with same-sex parents.

Despite being gay themselves, the designers told Italian magazine Panorama: "We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one. No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed."

"You are born to a mother and a father – or at least that's how it should be", Domenico Dolce continued, adding that procreation "must be an act of love".

John, singer and father to Zachary, 4 and Elijah, 2, with husband David Furnish, posted the following comment in response:

How dare you refer to my beautiful children as "synthetic". And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF - a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana

Earlier this year, as same-sex marriage was legalised in the UK, long-term partners Elton John and David Furnish married in a ceremony that celebrated their family.

The wedding was documented on Instagram with the hashtag "#ShareTheLove", and contrary to Dolce's comments, it was clear that the Furnish-John family is filled with love.

It's not just mothers who are celebrating their love today. Go Elton!
