You tubers may be surprised on April the 1st when they see that every single phrase they put into the search bar comes up with "Did you mean: Darude - Sandstorm by Darude?"
It seems Youtube know what's going down in cyber space. The phrase refers to a sort of internet in-joke which has plagued comment sections for a long time (some would argue, WAY TOO long).
“Sandstorm” is a 1999 trance techno song by the Finnish electronic music producer Darude. Upon its release, the song instantly gained mainstream recognition and continues to remain relevant in video games and sporting events.
The song then became an international joke on July 24th, when a Youtuber uploaded a video of themselves playing a video game whilst listening to “Sandstorm”. The same day, the video was submitted to the site Reddit where it gained over 1,900 up votes and 200 comments. Afterwards, users on sites such as Youtube began falsely naming any unidentified music as “’Darude – Sandstorm”.
For example -
Unsuspecting user: "What song is this?"
Internet spokesperson: "Darude - Sandstorm"
Rest of internet: *upvotes comment*
Unsuspecting user: *confused*
So with this prank, it now seems that, contrary to popular belief, Youtube really does get what is going on down there.
