"SNL" Made Fun Of Britney Spears' Pregnancy Announcement In An Easter-Themed Cold Open

"I just pray my baby is born happy, healthy, and with the power of attorney.”

In case you missed it, Britney Spears announced earlier this week that she's welcoming her first child with fiancé Sam Asghari.

There was also a new episode of Saturday Night Live this weekend, and the cold open featured a wide variety of public figures — Dr. Anthony Fauci, Elon Musk, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, and so on — offering some Easter-themed messages.

Happy Easter from this very interesting collection of people! 🐰

One of the impressions on display: SNL cast member Chloe Fineman as Britney herself.

Chloe points her fingers in the air

"Hey y'all! It's me, Britney," she began her impersonation, before attempting to replicate some of Brit's notorious IG dancing videos and saying, "I bet you didn't think I could do this."

Chloe then moved on to some jokes about Britney's recently dissolved conservatorship and the pregnancy announcement.

“Remember six months ago when everyone was like, ‘We need to get her out of this conservatorship, and now you’re like, ‘Someone’s still gonna check on her right?’” she said.

“Well, don’t worry, I’m finally free, and I’m having a baby! I just pray my baby is born happy, healthy, and with the power of attorney.”

All in all, pretty toothless satire — but, also, just the act of making fun of Britney in any context seems like a...choice, given the recent past and everything we know now.

Last year's Framing Britney Spears documentary revisited the cavalcade of needlessly cruel Britney jokes in the 2000s media sphere, and how they contributed to a hostile media climate rife with misogyny.

The conversation around the doc was visible and seemingly inspired some sort of cultural shift when it comes to how female-identifying celebrities are scrutinized and mocked in the public sphere — but, given this latest SNL sketch, maybe that was wishful thinking. Who knows!

Anyway, you can watch the whole cold open here.
