Liberal senator Cory Bernardi, who is a strident opponent of marriage equality, posted about his 20th wedding anniversary on Twitter today.
He was trying to bait people into abusing him for his 20 years of marriage. But instead, Bernardi was met with an outpouring of support.
Sadly, Bernardi and his wife couldn't be together for the big day, as he is currently on a posting to the United Nations in New York.
But a fellow Australian traveller in NYC even offered to keep Bernardi company.
In fact, a couple of people made this kind suggestion.
Many people offered their sincere congratulations and also suggested Bernardi rethink his opposition to marriage equality at the same time.
And other just said, straight up, well done.
A congrats bot even got in on the action!
Another Twitter user, posing as a sedan, asked Bernardi to focus on the actual big issues facing the world today.
But despite the odd criticism for his anti-marriage equality stance and provocative tweet, mostly, congratulations just rolled on in.
Happy 20th anniversary, Cory Bernardi.
