Response to 11 Filmmakers Who Expertly Answered The Question “Why Do You Write Strong Female Characters?”:
Sadly, we seem to only be talking about WHITE women here. Save for Tarantino, who wrote a film around a strong black female (Jackie Brown), ALL the above filmmakes have written white lead female roles. And all the above filmmakers are white. What about Mira Nair (Mississippi Masala, among others) and Brian Gibson (What’s Love Got to do With it?)? This conversation seems to have forgotten that strong female characters should be presumed to only be white.
