David Taylor, a biotechnologist and blogger, developed a metric that considers a name's popularity and the rate of its rise and decline.
Taylor discovered that in 1947, the name ~Linda~ skyrocketed in popularity when it was the baby name of nearly 5.5% of girls.
The name was made popular by musician Jack Lawrence, whose song "Linda" was at the top of the Billboard charts.

Lawrence wrote the song for Linda Eastman, who was the 5-year-old daughter of his attorney, Lee Eastman. Linda would later become the first wife of Beatle's singer Paul McCartney.
Since then, no other US baby name has trended so much in such a short amount of time.
