This Demonstration Showing How Much The Pelvis Widens During Vaginal Childbirth Is Leaving Millions Of People Totally Speechless

    It’s all in the pelvis!

Krisha Crosley is a natural birth doula, natural birth trainer, and childbirth educator based in Dallas Fort Worth, Texas.

And Krisha's videos about all things childbirth have been getting a lot of attention on TikTok.

However, a recent video where she demonstrates positions that help pregnant people create space for a baby to exit the pelvis has gone wildly viral, with over 13 million views:

In the above video, Krisha shows that you should have your knees in and ankles out to help open the bottom of the pelvis and make it easier for the baby to be born.

She has since made a whole series of videos demonstrating ways you can widen the pelvis for vaginal delivery.

BuzzFeed spoke to Krisha, who said that she hopes her content helps expecting parents train their bodies and minds for a natural birthing experience with confidence. "Birth is compared to running a marathon. Would you step up to the starting line of a marathon and not train for it? NO! Expecting moms can train for birth! I am also a firm believer in the more knowledge you have about a subject, the better-educated decisions you will make about that subject," she said.

"In the natural birth world, we trust the process and flow power to the mom's innate ability to birth her baby. Moms get in the best position they feel comfortable in and, when they feel the urge to push with the body's natural fetal ejection reflex, they push. Natural births happen in several positions, like hands/knees, squatting, standing, and side lying. These positions allow the sacrum to lift up, pulling the tailbone out of the way, and creating more room at the bottom of the pelvis for baby to cross the finish line," she explained.

Krisha believes the most helpful videos for expecting moms are ones that demonstrate ways in which you can exercise, stretch, do techniques, as well as how the pelvis works as the baby moves through it. "Our bodies are created to move. We should be moving and exercising through the entire pregnancy to help our body adjust as we grow a human being from scratch."

All of the natural birthing tips and techniques Krisha demonstrates are what have worked from her personal experience as a natural birth doula, and she said there is also supporting literature behind the techniques. "I have witnessed natural birth after natural birth after natural birth in people of different sizes, shapes, and ethnicities. They all go through the same rhythm as the baby navigates the pelvis, it's just not the same time frame."

"A lot of people think birth doulas advocate for you. We don't. Birth doulas provide the resources you need to make an educated decision and teach you how to advocate for yourself during pregnancy and birth. There are a wide variety of different types of birth doulas with different skill set levels and different investment levels. Expecting parents should interview as many doulas as needed to find the most perfect, like-minded birth doula to recruit to their birth team."

"Doula recruiting tip...if you are an expecting parent who wants a good, seasoned doula as part of your birth team with birth experience, start interviewing when you first find out you're pregnant — seasoned doulas book up in the first trimester."

Krisha wants people to educate themselves on childbirth so they can make the best decision for their circumstances — whether that is a natural childbirth or not. "I educate and train expecting parents who desire a natural birth experience. I also help them cope with comfort measures through the natural birthing process. Put your phone down, ignore the people who are in your ear saying you are nuts for wanting a natural birth. Surround yourself with like-minded, supportive people and a birth team."
