This Midwife Is Going Super Viral For Her Demonstrations On All Things Related To The Female Body

One word: OUCH.

Sarah Pringle is a certified nurse-midwife who has been teaching people on TikTok about all things related to women's health.

She makes videos showing everything from where a tampon sits inside you...

...to where and what doctors check during a pelvic exam.

And, even though all of Sarah's videos get hundreds of thousands of views — her recent one showing what a cervix looks like when it's dilated for childbirth went mega-viral with over 10 million views:

BuzzFeed spoke to Sarah, who said she started making TikToks with her daughter during quarantine last year. "I posted a funny speculum TikTok and started to gain followers. I realized that people want to know about their bodies and their health. This led me to create educational content featuring common office procedures, women's health products, and the basics of childbirth," she said.

The models used in all of Sarah's dilation videos help RNs and midwife students learn how to check for cervical dilation and effacement. "In pregnancy, cervical dilation can help determine the medication needed to induce labor, check labor progression, and assess for preterm labor," she explained.

As an educator, Sarah has a lot of other models she uses for teaching, like a pelvis and a stuffed placenta used to help people visualize the birthing process. She also shares videos explaining what the things you may see at an OB's office are, like a fetal heart rate monitor.

Sarah thinks so many of her videos go viral because people are interested in seeing the unknown. "People are intrigued by the human body in general, and especially with childbirth," she added.

And when it comes to women's healthcare, Sarah emphasized the importance of trusting your doctor. "Who your provider is matters. You should feel comfortable talking about all aspects of your care, including your birth plan. If you are uncomfortable with your current provider, it's OK to interview other providers until you find a good fit," she said, adding, "It's also important for people to know that they are in charge of their bodies and their care and are capable of making informed decisions. Education is empowering and helps people to advocate for themselves in health care. And education can be fun!"
