Awkwafina, one of the film's stars, told BuzzFeed News in an interview in Los Angeles earlier this month that the experience of making it was "genuinely empowering."

“It was extremely special because when you do a movie with that [as] the undertone, it makes you feel like you’re a part of something bigger," she said. "You know, I don’t think that all the women were there to create [the] illusion of feminism. I think it was done right. It wasn’t like, 'We need to check this off because we need to appease the women’s crowd.'

"It was just genuinely empowering. When you walk onto a set that has that political undertone, and then you’re with this group of boss-ass women — in the film and outside of the film — it just feels good. It’s a good feeling.”

Ocean's 8 will be released in the US on June 8, 2018.
