Amaryllis Fox is a former CIA officer who just spoke publicly for the first time about working undercover. Her message is now resonating with a lot of people, and is sharing like crazy on Facebook.
In the video, Fox says that during her time in counterintelligence one of the biggest lessons she learned was "everybody believes they are the good guy."
She continues by saying, "If you're walking down the street in Iraq or Syria and ask anybody why America dropped bombs, you get: 'They were waging war on Islam.'"
Alternatively, she says, when you ask why the Twin Towers were attacked on 9/11, Americans will say, "They hate us because we're free."
She also cites a conversation she had with an al-Qaeda fighter during a debriefing. She says the fighter said that to the rest of the world, America is the Empire and "we are Luke and Han."
Many are receiving Fox's statement positively, claiming she is offering a unique perspective in a vastly complicated situation.
However, others believe the video itself sounds like "terror apologia."
In under five hours, her video message was shared on Facebook over 230,000 times.
It has also had 9 million views and counting since being posted on Monday.
