Test Your Oscar Knowledge With These Best Picture Winners

<p>The year will refer to the year the movies came out, not the year of the ceremony.</p>

"_Moonlight_. Best Picture." One of the biggest award show moments of the last decade. But that moment living on keeps reminding people that _Moonlight_ did win Best Picture, and that it's fantastic.

_**Moonlight**_

The first ever Best Picture winner, and the only true silent movie to win. The dogfights are incredible and hold up to this day.

_**Wings**_

This family drama took home the hold against Francis Ford Coppola's Vietnam epic, in _Apocalypse Now_, and Bob Fosse's semi-autobiographical fantasia, in _All That Jazz_. But Kramer vs. Kramer is a fantastic family drama, and not at all slight.

_**Kramer vs. Kramer**_

One of the most controversial races for Best Picture in the history of the Oscars, starting with Spike Lee's _Do The Right Thing_ not even being nominated.

_**Driving Miss Daisy**_

It beat _Citizen Kane_! _Citizen Kane_! _How Green Way My Valley_ was a fine movie, but it is speculated to have won because the Academy was angered at Orson Welles and his almost singular success.

One of the great rom coms not only won Best Picture, it also had a clean sweep of the Big Five categories: Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay. The first film to do so.

**_It Happened One Night_**

A controversial one, considering the other nominees in this category are more critically revered. But, the Oscars.

_**Forrest Gump**_

In a year when the movies went into the darkness of American life, the movie that won was an inspirational underdog tale.

_**Rocky**_

I would have been happy with most of these movies winning the big prize, but I'm happy it _Spotlight_. A small movie telling an important story smartly, and people putting in the work about people putting in the work.

_**Spotlight**_

There is the conversation about films traditionally thought of as "women's pictures" not given the same weight as more "masculine" films. But this is not that.

_**Shakespeare in Love**_

The last musical to win the Best Picture Oscar until _Chicago_ in 2002. And it surprisingly wasn't _Funny Girl_, which has lasted in public consciousness longer than _Oliver!_.

_**Oliver!**_

The film that earned Hilary Swank her second Best Actress win, also won Best Director and Best Supporting Actor.

_**Million Dollar Baby**_

_Going My Way_ is a lovely movie about a young priest taking over a church and his struggle with the older priest he's replacing, but I wouldn't have minded _Double Indemnity_ or _Gaslight_ winning.

_**Going My Way**_

This is notoriously one of the biggest "why did that win" in Oscar history. Over _Giant_? _The King and I_? Come on!

_**Around the World in 80 Days**_

It's always fascinating to me if you people remember the most recent Best Picture winner. The time test to show if a movie stayed with you.
