Can You Pass This "Real Life" GCSE Maths Test?

These are 10 of the questions being trialled to help kids learn how to apply maths to real-life situations.

Posted on

Pupils in 130 schools in the UK are taking part in a trial where they're taught maths in "real world" situations.

The Education Endowment Foundation, who is funding the project, said that while these kinds of questions are included on GCSE papers at the moment, pupils are doing worse on them than more abstract questions. It hopes by teaching the maths in this context, It will help pupils be better able to apply the abstract concepts to their everyday life.

These 10 questions are examples of the kind of things they'll be doing.

You're not supposed to use a calculator with these, but we won't tell. You'll probably need a pen and paper.
