19 Wholesome Scenes In Dark TV Shows That Caught People Way Off Guard

"I saved the best for last."

We recently asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us their favorite wholesome moments from dark TV shows. Here are some of the best responses:

    Warning: spoilers ahead!!!

Note: Some of the following contain mentions of suicide.

    1. When Kate and Mallory kissed in the Season 1 finale of Cruel Summer.

"It really felt like Kate was starting to heal and become a new version of herself. Mallory initially being shy about dancing, Kate stopping and smiling at Mallory, and then them cheering and laughing after they kiss was adorable!"

    2. When Vivien finally got to hold her baby on American Horror Story: Murder House.

    3. On The 100, when the group rode around in the rover and sang along to music.

    group driving the rover around
    The CW

"It's a really great moment that hammers in that, despite all of the horrible things they’ve had to do to survive up to that point, they're still just kids who want to have fun at the end of the day."

    4. When June told Nick she was pregnant on The Handmaid's Tale.

June: "It's terrible" Nick: "No it's not," he places his hand over her stomach

"The circumstances of how the baby was conceived were obviously so dark, but Nick’s reaction to having a child on the way was so wholesome to me."

    5. When Kendall danced with his kids and estranged wife at the wedding on Succession.

"It warms my heart every time."

    6. When Olivia's whole family surprised her and showed up to her 100-day sobriety celebration on All American.

Olivia: "Don't you guys have plans?" Billy: "Someone more important came up," they all hug
    The CW

The entire flashback sequence of Jordan finding Olivia after she overdosed was absolutely heartbreaking to watch, but it flowed with the present-day scene of her at her celebration so seamlessly. I actually teared up when the camera panned to her parents clapping and smiling during the ceremony.

    7. When Sansa and Jon reunited at Castle Black on Game of Thrones.

Sansa and Jon hug and embrace in the snow

"That desperate hug between family members who weren't even close before their long, terrible journeys was everything."

    8. When Freddie swam to Effy in the lake on Skins.

    9. When Bobby's last memory as he was dying was Sam and Dean arguing about movie snacks on Supernatural.

    The CW

"Bobby saved the best for last."

    10. When Beth gave Katie and her daughter her old house on Mare of Easttown.

Beth: "Welcome to your new home," Katie: "My home? But how?" Katie's mom: "A lot of people love you"

    11. When Kit and Sister Jude swing danced after returning from the woods with the kids on American Horror Story: Asylum.

    12. When Alex introduced his boyfriend, Charlie, to his family and they were instantly accepting on 13 Reasons Why.

Alex: "I thought this would be a bigger deal," Alex's mom: "Is he good to you? Does he make you happy?" Alex: "Yeah, a lot," Alex's mom hugs him: "Then it's a very big deal to me"

One thing that I felt this show actually did really well was Alex's coming-out arc. I loved how it wasn't a big deal to his family at all — his brother was just excited Alex was dating the quarterback! It was so refreshing to see.

    13. When Hannibal saved Will from Mason and carried him home through the snow on Hannibal.

    14. When Fleabag and Boo improvised a song together after a long day on Fleabag.

Fleabag and Boo singing: "And we're happy so happy to be modern women"

"It's just a small scene, but it's so full of joy, as well as heartbreak."

    15. When it started to rain and everyone just rejoiced for a moment on The Walking Dead.

"The entire group has been traveling along the road for a long time in the blistering heat when it suddenly starts to rain. Everyone is laughing, catching rain in their mouths, lying down in puddles. It's just such a genuinely sweet scene — you can really feel their relief."

    16. When Guzmán put his hatred for Polo aside so they could both support Ander through chemotherapy on Elite.

This moment not only showed how much Guzmán loved Ander, but also how much he had grown as a character. They may have ruined everything later on, but this scene always stands out as one of my top Guzmán moments.

    17. When Dawn realized Willow and Tara were back together on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

    The WB

"Dawn is so gleeful, and Willow and Tara are clearly really happy. It goes badly from there, but it’s such a sweet moment."

    18. On Mr. Robot, when Elliot almost killed himself, but then ended up bonding with Trenton's little brother and taking him to the movies instead.

    19. And finally, in the last scene of BoJack Horseman, when BoJack and Diane shared one final moment together.

BoJack: "Life's a bitch right?" Diane: "Sometimes life's a bitch and then you keep living"

"It was sad, but it was such a beautiful genuine moment between two friends. You knew that even if this was the last time they'd see each other, they'd both be okay."
