Too often, Hollywood mistreats black characters and relies on horrible stereotypes instead of giving them the writing they deserve.
But there are some TV shows that do a better job writing characters that actually convey what it's like to be a black person in this world. And maybe these characters finally made you feel seen.
So, we want to know: Which black character on TV really made you feel seen?
Maybe you related to Spencer from All American because he's passionate and always stands up for his beliefs. Maybe you really appreciate how layered his character is, and that he doesn't have to be perfect 100% of the time.
Maybe Eric from Sex Education is really important to you because he's proud of his sexuality and doesn't let anyone tell him who he is.
Or maybe you connected with Liberty from Degrassi: The Next Generation because she went through so much, but never gave up on her dreams. Maybe you loved that she cared about school and didn't downplay her passions to fit in with the crowd.
Whoever it is, we want to hear about them! Tell us which black TV character made you feel seen and WHY they're special to you. Your response could be featured in a future BuzzFeed Community post!
