However you feel about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there's no denying that the movie was divisive.
Like Rey when she first saw Kylo shirtless in his high-waisted pants, The Last Jedi makes people feel — especially longtime fans of the franchise. We all felt so much! Both positive and negative feelings!
But perhaps the most feels-inducing moment of the movie, and the most controversial, was when Luke Skywalker Force-projected himself onto Crait to battle Kylo Ren...
...before peacefully dying/happily evaporating on the planet Ahch-To, with the gentle whoosh of a cloak, just like his mentor, Obi-Wan.
WE ALL HAD FEELINGS. Luke had never Force-projected himself before; did we even know he could do that?! Was that really the way to wrap up the storyline of the franchise's first and most incorruptible Jedi hero?!
Welp, turns out there's some subtle and perfect symmetry going on here that completely escaped me until now. All the way back in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Luke's journey truly began when he saw a projection of Leia asking for help.
And his journey ended when he sent a projection to help Leia.
GUYS.
Just realized that Luke Skywalker's story begins with Leia sending a projection of herself asking for help, and ends with Luke sending a projection to help Leia. https://t.co/VdMXcFyvco
I know that there are a lot of "wow this detail has me emotional/crying/shook" content on the internet these days, but I am not exaggerating when I say WOW THIS DETAIL HAS ME EMOTIONAL/CRYING/SHOOK.
