By now, you've had plenty of time to finish 13 Reasons Why — but on the off chance you haven't, be warned: SPOILERS AHEAD.
Great, now that we're all on the same page, let's talk about the very first scene of the show. It's present day, after Hannah's suicide, and the first thing we see is her posthumously decorated locker. The song "More Than Gravity" by Colin & Caroline plays as we hear the recording of Tape 1 for the first time.
Then the camera pulls out, showing us our first glimpse of Liberty High and one Clay Jensen, the emotionally withdrawn wearer of helmets.
Now we know, of course, that Clay was in love with Hannah and never told her while she was alive. But during that first scene, we had no idea.
Which is why the song lyric that plays during Clay's first appearance — with Hannah's locker still in view — is so devastating.
And it's made even more devastating when you remember what Clay said to Mr. Porter about Hannah during the finale.
Honestly, this is too much.
