Tell Us Which Famous Women Were Wrongfully Treated By The Public

It's not just the media.

In light of The New York Times Presents episode "Framing Britney Spears," there's been an important conversation around the media's effect on her career and on famous women as a whole.

But it's not just the toxic behavior perpetuated by the media that's affected how famous women are perceived — the public has played a major role, too.

This made me want to ask you, dear reader: When did the public fail a famous woman?

For example, in 2018, people left sexist and racist comments on Kelly Marie Tran's Instagram account after her major success in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Because of the horrific online harassment she endured, Tran deleted her Instagram account.

And in 2019, Brie Larson received death threats and constant harassment because she played the lead role in an MCU movie, and sexist Marvel fans couldn't accept it.

It's unfortunately been a common thread in pop culture for decades, and happens more than everyone thinks. Tell us which famous women you think were mistreated by the public (and why you believe so) in the comments below.
